Put key in IGN and turn to run. All warning lights should come on, including the check engine light. Then turn the key to crank. As the engine cranks and the crankshaft position sensor detects rotation and reports it to the PCM, the check engine light should go out. If it stays on, the PCM isn't getting input from the crankshaft postion sensor. Check the connection or replace the sensor.
sounds like security system needs relearned .turn key and try to start then release key to the on position the security light will stay on for about ten minutes then go off ,turn ignition key to off position for five seconds then repeat the cycle two more times the system will then relearn code .takes a while but saves you $75.00 program fee
I believe on those you have to turn the key to the on postion and press the gas pedel three times within 5 sec. then turn the key off. just do it a bunch of times cause it takes a little while to get it just right
Yes, this is most likely the anti theft security system. This system is KNOWN to FAIL on just about all GM cars from the late 80's to mid 2000's. Check out this link for info on the subject and possible DO IT YOURSELF solutions. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

all gm vehicles from 97-2005 have a theft system called the passlock system. (how to deactivate system on chevy malibu) turn key on engine off, let it stay on for at least 10 minutes, then turn ignition off, take out key from ignition switch. after 1 minute start the car. you can also go to tubesound.com to disable system for good. --tubesound.com/passlocksystem. ( just type in the problem when page comes up ). have a good day!! vehicle will not start with system blinking. it thinks its being stolen.
Is your anti theft light staying on when you turn your key into the on postion, if so you need to reset it. Just leave your key in the on position for abut 20 min and the light should go off then it should start.
