I have a 1989 xj6 a mechanic told me that 2 of the cylinders was bad. When I drive the car 4 about 20 mins the cockpit of the car becomes very hot its like a sauna in there heat from the engine is blowing through the vents. Now a mechanic told me that it would be cheaper and better 4 me to replace the engine then replaciing the cylinders becausei will need to replace all 6 cylinders 4 the car to run properly. My car has 220.000 miles on the engine. I found a 1994 jaguar engine wit 66,000 miles on it sound unbelievable to me too. The price is 4 the engine is 635.00. And labor to put the engine in car 2,000. Do I really need a new engine or just 2 new cylinder? Please help.
At that price replace the engine. Make sure though that you get a warranty for the engine that includes the cost of installation if the new one fails. Most shops will warranty for 90 days which is long enough to find out if there is going to be a problem.
The technician is correct. you will need to replace this damaged engine. When the cylinder walls are damaged or eroded, as in this case, it is standard practice to replace the entire block and head.
