Step 1Materials Valve Cover Gasket Kit ($13 at autozone, big box with two tubes of RTV and 11 neoprene bolt seals) --- alternatively, you can buy the preformed gasket for about $30 - if y…

step 2Remove the intake You'll need your screwdriver to loosen up any clamps. You really only need to remove the section that bolts up to the TB -- this just makes working faster. If you d…

step 3Remove Solenoid I think its an EGR solenoid - regardless, its bolted on to the side of the valve cover. If you can unplug it - be my guest. I couldn't, so I used a socket and unbolted it.

step 4Remove Spark Plug Wires etc. Pull the wires. Also disconnect the PCV canister and breather hose.

step 5Remove Valve Cover Bolts and remove the valve cover Using the Torx bit, remove the valve cover bolts and their gasket washer ring thingies. I think they are all the same size, so no worries about keeping them in order. Th…

step 6Optional - **** out any oil If your gasket failed like mine, you're gonna need to pull some excess oil out of the plug wells. A plastic turkey baster comes in handy here :P I used a pipette - it is wh…

step 7Clean the Mating Surfaces Using the gasket scrapper, remove any and ALL of the old gasket material. Using a #1 (or maybe #2) flat head screwdriver will help get the old material out of the groove…

step 8Apply the RTV Gasket Material Follow the directions on the tube of RTV. Evenly apply a bead of RTV sealant on the valve cover. I added a little extra to the #1 and #2 spark plug well. I did this because…

step 9Put the valve cover back on This is important. Place the valve cover back on the head exactly where you want it without hitting anything. If you smear the wet RTV, you're going to have to clean it off…

step 10Final Steps Now you're pretty much done. Using your socket, replace that solenoid and any hoses you took off. Replace the intake, breather hose and PCV line. Then let your car sit f…

Why does my 2004 Lincoln ls v6 sputter at 50 to 60 mph

Hi,I have a 2004 as we'll,bought it used about 6 months ago,he said he had new valve cover gaskets replaced, our vehicles are know to have leaky gaskets, the mechanic that did the job, didn't put one of the hoses back on right,it put in it in a bind, and cause it to crack and leak,I found one on ebay for about 50 bucks,if you open your hood,to the left are 2 hoses, right at the end is where it cracked and started sucking air,the other end goes around the engine and connects to the pvc valve on the back side,I also replaced the pvc,but the old one was still good, with the leak,it cause the engine to not have any power, also if you look on both sides down on engine,is it leaking oil,if so then the valve cover gaskets are leaking, their's a good you tube video showing you how to do it,plus changing the plugs you have to remove the intake to get to them, whoever came up with this design needs a spanking, lol, let me know if your hose is bad,I will show you where to get a new one, your check engine light may come on,mine did.

Whats the best way to change out the valve cover gaskets on my 1993 Jeep Wrangler?

Wrangler 6 cylinders engines are a straight 6 engine with only one valve cover. The gasket for the valve cover is sold separately from the entire valve cover so it can be replaced.

What is the part name for the hose on top of my Protege DX valve cover?

Just the hose or the PCV (not pvc) valve? The hose is probably a dealer-only item - go to the Mazda parts department w/the broken piece and they'll get you a new one. The PCV is avl. @ most auto parts stores - and is cheap - <$20.

My chevy s10 will startright up but once it does it wont idle consistantly. when you rev it up it will kinda miss. it acts as though it is being starved of fuel. it has a new fuel filter, plugs,wires,...

if you have a V6 then you might suspect a leaking intake manifold gasket, a common problem. Has your coolant level been dropping lately? If so then the coolant may be entering some of the cylinders and then shorting accross the sparkplugs. Youtube has lots of videos on how to change the intake manifold gaskets.

On the other hand you may have clogged injectors or a leaking fuel pressure regulator

I have loads of oil at the bottom of my air filter housng and in the air filter. What is causing this to happen ? Is it safe to drive e mail address is .darran21@live .com

Oil is being sucked into the air filter housing from the valve cover due to a clog in the hose that goes to the passenger side valve cover and connects to your air box. You will need to have that cleaned and cleared out a have the valve cover gaskets replaced. If it persits you can harm the engine because it will **** that oil into engine cylinders and cause you to stall out.

Good luck

IF YOU GETTING OIL AROUND COIL PACK.MORE LIKELY YOUR PVC VALVE CLOGGED. ITS ALLOWING CRANKCASES PRESSURE BUILD UP CAUSING OIL TO BE PUSHED BACK UP IN THE PVC.OR COMPRESSION RINGS WORN TO A EXTENT THAT THE CRANKCASE IS OVER PRESSURIZED. FORCING OIL THROUGH THE PVC VALVE.YOU HAVE A PVC VALVE NEAR THE COIL AREA.THAT COULD BE WHERE OIL IS COMING FROM.

How can I identifies the PCV valve in the motor, where is ti??? and how can I chenge it???

The pvc valve will be located on the valve cover. Or better yet will be inserted into the valve cover. Follow the hoses coming from your air cleaner ( air filter) to the one that goes to your valve cover. Your pvc valve will be at the end of the hose. pvc valve can be tested by pulling it out of the valve cover while still attached to the hose. Start the engine. Place your finger over the pvc valve and pug it with your finger. If you feel vacume then it is working properly. If no vacume is present. Replace pvc valve

2002 saturn sl1 pcv valve

The PVC valve is located in the valve cover (top "cover" of the engine, near the oil filler cap) On DOHCs, it is immediatly to the right. On SOHCs, it a few inches to the left. The PVC valve is held to the valve cover with a rubber grommet type seat.

1. Remove the hose that connectes the throttle body unit to the PVC valve.
2. Using your hands, remove the PVC valve from the rubber seat. Wiggle it back and forth, then pull it straight out.
3. You can either clean this with carb cleaner, or simply replace it with a new one (<$5 at most auto stores)
4. Put the PVC valve back into the rubber seat and replace the hose
