I have had the car since 2004. It has never been so loud. When in gear it is loud and it seems to come from the front of the car. When driving above 65mph I can barely hear the radio. It is automatic and sometimes shifts very hard. It is better when the gas peddel is not pushed, but still is not as quiet as I can remember? What can it be?

Engine light on? sounds like EGR valve the cross pipe from EGR to air intake plugs causes them to idle rough if eng light not on soon it will surface! good luck hope this helps!

I had the same thing! It was a computer issue. It only cost me about $35.00.

Take a look at the down shift cable and make sure its not broken especially were it connects to the throttle linkage. And maybe try cleaning the electrical plug that plugs into the trans. Its about a 7 to 9 wire plug. They tend to collect water and short the wiring out.

I'd say there's no grease left in the CV joint boots, if it's front wheel drive. Something you should check right away, as your car has about reached that age, and if you run it without grease in the boots, you'll eat up the joints in a big hurry, and that's costly and dangerous as well.

check your transmission solenoids see if one went bad also check your vehicle speed sensor if its messed up sending wrong signals
