Lights started flickering battery light came on Dash lights and gages went crazy now wont start

My 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan Was running good then all the dash lights started flickering gages bouncing up and down clicking noise under dash when I accelerate the trip and milage lcds go off completely now it acts like the battery is dead ...

    Went to follow the battery ....and when i went to disconect the posotive cable the post and clamp were black ..cleand them put back together ..started right up and is running wonderfull as it always had ...thanks for the advice that led to the cure

    everything works on the dash but the milage/trip thing help

Like you said, battery may be flat. You can check that with a multimeter.

Next check the alternator. Faulty alternator leads to uncharged battery.

The Dealer will not help you without charging you your right arm and left leg. After checking your alternator and battery, it is probably the battery ground wire that goes into the wiring harness. You have a bare wire in there that occasionally shorts everything out. You can do a "quick fix" by just grabbing the harness where the ground goes in and moving it a little. Eventually, you will have to have someone cut that bundle open and find the bad wire and replace it. This is a poorly engineered vehicle. I will not be buying another dodge EVER.

Just a guess your engine was running on the battery because the alternator was not putting out enough to keep the battery charged. The engine died but still had enough power to power the dash lights but not enough to start it

Dam you need a EXORCISM!
No just a loose connection in the dash.
Sounds easy right!
IF you are lucky it may be the main plug not seated into the dash board. Or a bad ire in that connector.

I had a similar problem, the lights would go crazy, battery/odometer and drive selection display would flicker like mad. I replaced the battery problem has not been back. I would have battery checked, could be a bad/dead cell in battery. You could always use a known good battery to see if it stops it before replacing it. I thought this sounded far fetched when I encountered this problem but again, has not happened since.

Cluster at fault or poor connection to the cluster connector on the back side of it

Overheated engines can be cause by many things

Bad head gasket

Collasped radiator or heater hose
Plugged up radiator or heater core
Plugged up cooling galleries in the engine or head cylinder

mcdevito75 here, Sounds like you have a problem under the dash with the main harness wireing as it comes thru the dash board from the firewall or at a connection under the dash board. Or if your dash board is controlled by a circuit board. Best Bet, Have an electrical auto shop in your area take a look, many things to take apart under the dash and you may make the problem worse with out realizeing it, no matter how versed you are with cars.

Try your headlight switch. If it is going bad it should affect all of these since they all work of the same switch.
