Engine is skipping when accelerating

My 1997 Saturn SL is skipping when accelerating. I believe it may be the plugs or plug wires. Sometimes 1 cylinder, sometimes 2. today i get same problem started on my saturn. when the race goes to between 30kms and 40kms it skips big time and then 70kms to 80kms it skips big time. what do I do now?

Why would cylinders 2 and 3 not fire on saturn 1.9?

Any number of reasons. Take the spark plugs out of each cylinder, making darn sure the engine is cold.
Are they wet or oily ? If not, then put the plug boot on the plug, then put it next to something metal on the engine , while an assistant turns over the key. Did you see a spark ? No, then the ignition is faulty. Replace the wires, plugs and rotor under the distributor cap, and the cap itself. I believe they are still rotor caps on this year Saturn.

How do I change spark plugs on a 97 Saturn slt

Well should be pretty basic youll need a 3/8 ratchet and an extension and a spark plug socket, if you cant see the plug wires and plugs you may need to take a cover off but they should be visible at the top of the engine, remove the plug wire and unscrew the spark plug, install new plug and replace the wire, do one at a time so you dont get the wires mixed up

It is 1997 satarn sci 1.9ltr changed plugs when it warms up hard to start and white smoke comes out the tail pipe

Even though you changed the plugs, one of them could be bad or not firing as good as it should. Also, the plugs may be the wrong kind. You can try a higher plug with platinum. I have a saturn with 1.9 DOHC and used the bosch platinum. It was the cheapest bosch platinum. If you use a higher grade plug than what I'm using, it will sometimes cause the car to skip.

Engine is skipping when accelerating

You only have 4 so better just do a tune up and change the plug and wires, but one at a time so you don't get them crossed when re-installing the new plugs and wire.
Use Platinum plugs since there good for 100,000 miles which mean less maintenance, and double check that the spark plug boots set to the plugs when re-installed.
Run some fuel injector cleaner through the gas tank for about a week to to clean out your fuel system and hope fully the skipping stops.
If your going to get all the goodys at Auto Zone, have them scan the car for any DTC codes since it's free and see if there are other issues that is causing the skipping like a bad signal from the MAP sensor ECT.
Good luck and keep me posted.

My 1997 saturn tuns over but wont start . i have tested every sensor and they are good.

Pull all 4 spark plug wires off at the coils, have someone crank your engine. You should see spark jumping between all 4 coils. If not you probally have a bad crank position sensor failed. If not that Ignition control You can check for fuel pressure at the fuel rail if you have a fuel pressure tester, might check the Inj. fuse located in the underhood fuse block.Hope this helps. Also You may try to push accelerator pedal all the floor this will put the engine in clear flood mode in case it's flooded.
