The cable /fuse to alternator has nothing to do with the start and run function if the battery is charged up and in good condition ,sounds like the main battery cables have a bad contact/connection or battery is shot<follow battery cables and remove all points of connection in engine bay area clean contacts with sandpaper and resecure all connections 1 AT A TIME! to make sure none are swapped around by mistake ) on both earth cable/negative and the positive/power cables, make sure terminals on battery are clean and tight , try boosting/jump starting your battery with jumper cables connected from another cars battery positive to positive .........negative to negative and see if it starts ,i doubt the problem of starting up is the alternator unless battery is flat and not being charged by alternator ,by jump starting with another baterry will give you the answer once all baterry cables and connections are clean and secure

SOURCE: replaced alternator and battery is good but not charging

I found the problem YEAH. It was the fuse that is in the side of the fuse box under the hood, Its where the battery wire from the alternator connects thru a fuse to go to the battery, Its one hundred and something volt fuse. It took care of the problem instantly.... Thank you all for your replies...

It sounds like you need to make sure the wires have the proper voltage and ground to generate a field and allow the alternator to charge.

Looking for the fuse that works with alternator.

no standard fuse in a fuse panel some vehicles have a master fuse/link that attaches inline if looking to pull fuse follow battery positive to where it links up with alternator some are by battery some by radiator but if its a fusible link not going to be able to pull it ---and as to a regular fuse their is none and some vehicles dont have any short in alternator usually means no out put if short in wiring than would have a constant drain on battery --their is no fuse that would stop that if short in wiring test the lines and replace the wires their is usually about 10 ft of wiring --if alternator pull connector from it

2001 E350 charging problems, batteries, alternator and 2 relays replaced. Still won't charge. Where are the inline fuses located?

It doesn't have a fuse per say. There is a large gray wire on the starter solenoid that acts as the fuse protection. That wire goes to the main junction box where it connects to the black-orange wire going to the alternator.
The problem could also be in the circuit with the battery light or gauge on the dash.

Alternator not charging

Get a wiring diagram free at Autozone.com by registering your truck on their site. It sounds like a fuse or Relay is broken, perhaps the fusible link inline to your battery. Manufacturers sometimes put fuses in the system to protect the Alternator. Check if all the wires and plug-ins that were taken off when replacing the Alternator, were reconnected.

Where is the fuse located for the alternator? i took the positive cable off and it died i wanted to check the fuse first which #fuse is it?

the fuse box under the hood is known as the (BJB) that is where you will find fuse for your alternator
location number for the fuse is F1.10 it is a 1amp fuse, there is another fuse which is an inline fuse, most likely the one your looking for 175amp location it does not specify, but red wire comes from the battery to the starter motor, from the starter motor to the alternator, the inline fuse is in the wire from the starter to alternator, there is n location for it, but easiest way is to check for voltage at the alternator, as inline fuse will be close to there, so if your there, just check at alternator for voltage
sorry it is not located in fuse box and the fuse for alternator in fuse box control the light on your dash

good luck, if i can help any further just ask

Thanks
Jay

Battery not charging. had charging system tested. all okay except alternator. removed alternator and had tested. replaced alternator. system still not charging.

Check the connections and the fusible link. A fusible link is an inline fuse in the wiring. You will need a multimeter to test and troubleshoot. Check that when the ignition is on, that you are getting 12 volts to the lead to the alternator. The ignition switch controls turning on the charging system.

Good luck, jim

Has anyone tested amperage output and draw on that cable? While running and while starting? With all accessories on etc? Perhaps a heavier gauge cable would be recommended, and/or at least an inline fuse, to avoid fire.

Alternator trouble on a Saturn 2002 **we have replaced it 3 times and still no go = Cannot get output charge from it on the car .But from an autopart test ( on the banch it is ok ????

Check the condition of all terminals on the battery alternator and starter.

There is a fusible link between the starter and alternator, if this is bad then you will not get output from the alternator.
