I just bought a 2000 Chevy Blazer 4x4 LS 4.3 vortex. I just changed the oil and filter. The previous owner put 5w30 so that was what I put in it. Before I changed the oil the gauge read 40. It has been 3 or 4 days now since I changed the oil, and today I noticed that it was reading 60. After running around a bit I noticed that when I stopped at a light or sign it read 20 then would jump up to a little above 40. Is this normal or am I looking at a new part to buy?
Temperature and rpm will cause changes in oil pressure. all the numbers you gave are fine. I'd worry if pressure dropped below twenty (actually 15 is still safe) and if engine was either tapping or knocking.

Not only does this YouTube video show the location of the oil filter on a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer, but it also claims that an entire oil change can easily be done by an average individual with a few common tools.
The oil filter is place underneath a flap on an easily-serviceable part of the car.
Oil pressure always changes with rpm. At idle you should have around 10 psi, and it should max out at high rpm around 50 psi or so. You not only can't have as much pressure at idle, but you don't need it either.
double check the oil level - should hold aprox. 6 quarts, 5w30. make sure the filter and the drain plug are tight. make sure it is a quality brand of filter you put on, or there could be an internal problem with it. if all else fails, have an oil pressure test performed to ensure you are not going to damage your engine. good luck!
The type of oil is SAE 5W30 and your going to need 4.3 liters with the oil filter changed. The filter i use is WIX oil filter and part number is 51036. Good luck and hope this helps.
First thing that i would reccomend is switching to 5w30 oil since this is what GM wants you to run in your hummer. Next i assume your gauge is pegged out and doesn't fluctuate. You are going to have to take your hummer down to the local dealer and have a computer hooked up to see if the gauge is bad or the oil pressure sender is bad, more than likely the sender. thanks for using fixya !! have a nice day
nothing ..normal low pressure at idle while hot ...but really should be thinking fresh oil change and filter soon..also what are the RPM's at idle hot in gear with A/C radio and other accessories running?
