I have a 1998 Nissan Altima that sputters and jerks while driving. When I accelerate it hesitates picking up speed. It occasionally attempts to shut off or will shut off at red lights and stop signs

Dear Tajack73: Nissan had a voluntary recall campaign on the 2002,2005,2006 Altima's with the 2.5 litre engines It envolves reprogramming the ECM.
The campaign ID # RD0712 NHTSA #: 07V-527
2005 Altima Vin's 1N4AL11**5C 100003-957025
1N4AL11**5N 400000-934180
The symptom you have described fits the one they have describe in the bulletin. Check with Nissan and see if your car falls within the campaign. Let men know how you do.

sounds like your thermostat may be stuck shut, blocking the flow of coolant through your engine block. it cools down again because of the cool air coming through the rad.

sounds like dirty fuel filter or failing fuel pump.
SOURCE: 1998 nissan sentra lost pick up speed and is jerking
first remove your map sensor and clean it with carburetor cleaner let it soak for a few hours and then reinstall it sometimes they get dirt or carbon build up and the pcm cant tell how much fuel to send
SOURCE: 1995 nissan quest wont
well start with new spark plugs wires distributor cap and rotor and fuel filter basic tune up or a coil instead of cap and rotor if so equipt
if that dont work crankshaft postion sensor or cam postion sensor and check fuel pressrue
ps you can check your coil cap and rotor by pulling out a spark plug plug it back into spark plug wire and have someone try to start car if spark is blue in all plugs your good any orange spark is a faulty coil and or cap and rotor
if it helps you please send thumbs up review my way
