Car died while driving

this happened to me I had a 2006 and what I did was to get over and shut it off, I waited, then I restarted it only check engine light was on I was able to get home, next day took it to dealer, said that a module had gone bad, they replaced it , it worked ok after that, I later sold it ,thinking it might happen again

You probably have a bad cam sensor or crank sensor.

By you saying the engine "Dies" I am going to assume it restarts.
If the timing belt failed the engine would not start again until the belt was replaced.
So it could be a fuel or electrical problem.

check to see if the security light or anti theft light flashes. if that is the case, sounds like the bypass for the remote starter may be causeing the no start by tripping the anti theft system. Remove remote starter and bypass system and join any cut wires back together that may be cut for remote starter. Try starting, if theft light still flashes leave key in the on position after attempted start for 15 minutes till theft light goes solid, turn off and try again. Repeat process for three times to re-learn factory theft system in vehicle. If problem still persists, then take to your local dealer to reprogram factory theft module in the cluster.

As soon as the altanator stops turning but the key is still on the battery light will come on.

It is either a bad sensor or plugged fuel filter. Very possible it is the throttle position sensor or leaky injector. Most likely bad sensor.. If check engine light is on, than surely bad sensor.
