I want to change the fuel filter on my 2001 bmw 740i

in the engine compartment right hand side,in the trunk right hand side near battery and the front kick panels may have some depending on model

usually nsr is where its at.....part is the same as the abs sensor

Check fuel pump pressure

How about tune up,wire,coils,fuel filter.

exactly, you ahve a gas leak , check for the gas line in rear part of the engine.

It is on the drivers side on the chassis.

yes you can change it yourself. Make sure you de-pressurize the system before removing (undo the gas cap).

Also...order the filter from bavarian auto or one of the online stores. The one you need is with the pressure regulator.

If you go to autozone, etc. they will sell you the worng filter.

If you removed the camshaft cover, you should probably replace the gasket or at a minimum insure that all bolts are torqued to OEM specification.

If you don't know why BMW doesn't have a transmission fluid dipstick you should seriously consider finding a trustworhty BMW mechanic in your area.

Check this:

the fuel pump relay in the trunk on the left side (pasenger)it's right underneath the plastic housing on the inside of the trunk on top of the rear wheel mold. The relay is a 5 prong relay light green in color....... hope this helps, let me know if you found it.
