The Mechanic narrowed it down to the EGR modulator or map sensor but cannot be definite about either one..

Check engine lights are used to mostly indicate problems with emission controlling components. Check your pcv valve, egr, map sensors maf sensors or any emmision related component
He's right both and the code is the EGR valve. The car won't run with the EGR valve removed but it may be disabled some way. Most of the time EGR vales leak or the senser line stopps up. There's a small medal ine coming up the the EGR senser from the exhaust and connects to the senser this line stops up and the senser knows something aught to be happing and it doesn't so it turns the light on. Your mechanic is right it's not hurting anything but it makes the light on. It can be fixed but it'll not run much different.
I too replaced the egr valve and was discouraged that the check engine light came back on with the same "insufficient flow" code. I took it to my mechanic to put it on the monster diagnostic machine. It said "check all vacuum line, and or map sensor". After looking real close we found a melted vacuum tube, and a cracked vacuum angle connector. Replaced both vacuum pieces, reset the codes, and good to go. If that fails than the next thing is the map sensor, that tells the EGR valve what to do.
Get a free code at AutoZone or some other place. It could be one of the many sensor problems. Especially the idler sensor or Map, Maf, and on from there.
hi i have a renult trafic i was told to buy an egr valve , map sensor , and a glow plug relay problem was still there got **** of with it spending money, i found the problem myself were your ( EGR VALVE IS THERE IS A SMALL NIPPLE AT THE BACK OF IT THERE IS A TUBE ON IT THAT GOES TO A THING CALL A MAP SENSOR PULL THE TUBE OF THE BACK OF THE EGR VALVE AND THAT NIPPLE WILL BE BLOCKED UP, THAT WILL SORT THAT OUT FOR U.
Ok that is normal when the light comes on the car goes into fail safe and no sensors are controling fuel managment its all predetermined by the pcm and its software programing. The stalling i have seen many many 92 acc. Remove egr valve and check the intake is not solid pluged with carbon causing back pressre popping the egr on on decel. If it is plugged clean it good or replace intake manifold.
