This sounds like the temp sending unit for the ecm is bad. There are 2 temp sensors, 1 for the light/gauge and 1 for the ecm. The sensor sends a signal to the ecm to tell it engine temp, the ecm them adjusts fuel mixture for cold or warm engine. This works much the same way as the choke does on a carb for cold starts

My wifes car had this same problem at about 100000 miles and after many trips to the shop it turned out to be carbor build up in the intake manifold. A fuel injector cleaner was hooked up and it helped the problem, but did not completely solve it. In oreder to get it totally clean the intake had to be removed and clean it out manually.

I had a problem with my 1995 Camry also. I would run fine cold, warm up when you let off the gas or shifted gears it would die. Sometimes it would start back up and sometimes it would not. After Many repairs, full tune up ect. ect. it turns out that the Coolant Temperature Sensor was bad. A $15 part. When you are driving the engine stays cool but once you let off the gas, when this sensor is bad, it reads the engine as hot and stalls it to keep it from overheating.

sounds like it could be a fuel injector shorting out. have to get it hot, pull off the plenum and check the resistance in each injector. if any injector has bad resistance, replace it. when an injector shorts out on these particular vehicles, it shorts out the whole injection circuit. and when it cools off the resistance goes back up and it will run ok. i think the correct resistance should be about 13 ohms.

i have the same problem and changed it and the same story wont start
Sounds like possibly more than on problem, crankshaft position sensor, or ignition module likely on starting prob which maybe affecting shifting due to hard code in ecm, or shift prob could be shift solenoid in valve body of transmission. Both parts readily available from local parts store
