If you suspect its a fuel problem best to do a fuel pressure test, you can rent a tester at auto zone and do it yourself. They also can show you how to use it and what pressure it should be. Also if you turn the key to on position you should hear a hum from the gas tank and then a click that is the pump running and the click is the relay, if you don't then the pump isent running, also chk. the fuse and relay, it could be as simple as a blowen fuse or a bad relay.

I chased this same issue with my 89 olds cutlass supreme started out with feul pump, sending unit and filter. That helped but still had issue then did air check valve, and throttle position sensor it helped a little more with runability but still had irregular starting so tested and replaced feul regulater oh boy that helped more yet didnt take care of issue. So beings the car ran great when it ran why do the injectors right. So i went after plugs and coilpacks and ignition modual lol boy this car runs good but still have starting issue lol so i took it to a garage for there input they told me ijectors and ECM was bad, boy so i did injectors and pc myself and bam car starts great on demand and when i want it to start. If you do the work your self but dont have the money for all kinds of parts call around for a diagnostic only cost for me was $30.00 and parts were under $300.00 injectors and ECM. All the other parts came up to almost $700.00. So if you got a budget to work with and want to get striaght to the issue have a garage with diagnostic eq. tell you what is wrong with it. They dont mind not doing the repair. Its still work for them just to do diagnostics. Good luck on your repair

Your fuel pressure will leak down 1psi per every five minutes if it leaks down afaster tthan that then you have a problem if it has 40 psi while trying to start and when running that is what you need it will leak down overnight these cars are bad to have faulty ignition modules that makes the car try to run out of time.

Just checked on a new fuel pump and it says it is 40psi. But we ran a test at the fuel rail and it waw 40psi with just the key to on. At the time it wouldn't start.

(It only starts... quickly, in morning or when sitting for hours. But, not always. Sometimes it is irregular.)

Someone told me that the 40psi needs to be constant... but, that isn't the case as the following day the fuel filter line had ZERO psi.

So check on how many checks to fine the proper psi. Found one site that said check fuel pressue on the rail after taking out relay... i think it is 2nd down on right column behind glove box. Then use jumper wire to bypass relay.

Then do another test... etc.

So find out proper testing for this car.

Also, need to check fuel pressure regulator.

good luck.

What would cause a car to crank but not start on a 2002 ACURA TL 3.2L?

No reaction to starting fluid means no spark. Cam sensor, timing sensor, spark plug coils etc. Likely will take a mechanic with professional testing tools to find the cause.

I have an 89 Jeep Comanche, 6 cyl 5 speed. I recently changed out all my spark plugs, clutch, battery, put in a new freeze plug, new oil change and new ignition coil. The jeep always started and i never...

I take it that it cranks over but will not start. Spray some starter fluid into the throttle body. If it runs, you have a fuel problem. You may have disconnected the fuel system by unplugging a connector or grounding a wire blowing a fuse.

Crank, won't start problem. I checked the spark plugs on Jeep 98. Looks good. Could it be the crank sensor or starter coil?

Yes it is very much possible. But there are many other possibilities too, including starter and spark plugs issue.

If your engine cranks normally but will not start because it has no spark, or it stalls and won't restart because it has no spark.

You can also do a test to confirm the problem .The procedure to do the test is as follows:---

If your engine has spark plug wires, disconnect one of the plug wires from a spark plug and place the end of the wire near a metal surface on the engine. Then insert a small Phillips screwdriver into the end of the wire (the plug boot), or a small bolt or nail to provide a conductive path. Then crank the engine and look for a spark to jump from the screwdriver, bolt or nail in the end of the plug wire to the engine. If you do not see a spark, there is an ignition problem.

OR-----------

If your engine has a coil-on-plug ignition system with no plug wires, In that case remove one of the coils from the spark plug and insert an old spark plug, a spark plug tester or a screwdriver into the end of the coil. Ground the spark plug or plug tester to the engine, then crank the engine and look for a spark. No spark indicates an ignition problem. If the engine has no spark, check for voltage at the coil positive terminal when the ignition key is on. If NO voltage, then problem is on the trigger side of the coil (pickup, crank sensor, ignition module or primary wiring circuit).

But If there is NO voltage at the coil itself, then in that case the problem is on the supply side (the ignition switch or ignition wiring circuit).-----------------

Jeep cranks but no start:----------------

A jeep that cranks over but doesn't start, in many cases will be due to a bad fuel pump, a broken timing belt, an inoperative cam sensor or crank sensor. Also these problems are related to faulty spark plug. Check the spark at spark plugs when you start the jeep. Do you notice any spark. Actually you should see. If in case there is no spark then it's a spark plug problem. Also the coil pack gives power to spark plug. So check the voltage at coil pack. It will show 12 volt. If there is no voltage noticed at coil pack then its faulty coil pack that has to be replaced. If all the possible options checked out ok then check the car starter. The starter gets power from battery to start the jeep. If the starter is faulty then it will not let the car to start. Also check and confirm that there is fuel in the jeep. If its very low fuel then in some cases this causes the problem. Also check and confirm that fuel pump is functioning properly and the fuel filter is not clogged. One of the easiest ways to check for a fuel pump related problem is to spray a little starting fluid into the air intake while trying to start the jeep. If the car starts momentarily, then there's a good chance the fuel pump is not working or the jeep is out of gas. You can also listen for the fuel pump's humming sound when the key is first turned on. Also if a inoperative fuel pump is suspected, a good technician will always check to verify there is power and ground being supplied to the pump, to eliminate the possibility of a bad relay or electrical issue. Fuel pressure can be checked with a pressure gauge and if there is pressure, pulse can be checked at the fuel injectors in several ways including the most common, with the use of noid lights. If the injectors don't have pulse the engine won't start. ---------- This troubleshooting tips will help you to solve the problem. Thanks. Helpmech.

My '93 F250 5.8 l Automatic was turning over slowly when cranking to start. Replaced battery no change; Then after sitting for 2 mo. turning key to start produced only a click and dead gauges (battery...

The battery to starter connection has power.the battery is ok.but there are many other possibilities related to battery and its other connections, the spark plugs, the fuel pump, the fuel itself, the sensors(o2 sensor, maf sensor)the valve(IAC valve, egr valve). Most probably the spark plug, the coil pack and crank shaft sensor. This 3 are not getting power to get the car start.

There are some possibilities which you will have to check in this case:--

1) First of all check the power and voltage to the battery. With meter it will show exact 12 volt if the battery is charged. If the voltage is less get the battery charged at local auto repair shop. If the battery is internally drained and not getting charged then its time to replace the battery.

2) When you crank the car do you see spark coming at the spark plug? If no then its time to check the spark plugs and coil pack. If the spark plugs are not worn out and looks new then its time to check coil pack. The spark plug gets power to spark from coil pack.

3) The other thing to check in this case is the starter solenoid of the car. If the battery is charged and you start the car then it gives power to the starter to start the car. But if starter is faulty or not connected properly then car will not start.

4) The other thing to check in this case is fuel in the car. If there is fuel in the car then check the blockages in the fuel pump if the fuel pump looks proper then check the fuel filter above the fuel pump.

5) If all the above possibilities mentioned above checked out OK/perfect then it's a electrical issue and the wiring's in the car needs to be checked. The car gets power from the battery to get started. so the wires from battery needs to be checked one by one.

Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Replaced coolant temp sensor, would not fire before replacement. sat overnight an won,t fire off cranks fine just no start has had new timing belt, new starter, new batt., new coils an wires, new plugs

to many things have been done=wasting money.test the spark by remouving the plug wire put a1/4" bolt in the end of the wire hold it with an insulated pliers near the engine metal and have someone turn the keyas though starting.if you have a good stoung cracking spark ok.irf not the computer may not be activaitng the coils.+cam crank sensor no good. the cam sensor has been a big problem.probably find further info at the library.or have it towed to a sop.there are a lot of more complicated issues involved with a no start that need to be tested before throwing more parts at it.

1998 Pontiac transport van wont start:

Well you hit all the major ones, could be crank position sensor, ignition module, a bad coil pack (it should have 3), you need to check that you have spark to each plug while the engine is turning over (!!!be careful as this will hurt if you get shocked!!!), this will rule out coil packs. if you have no spark to any plug your looking at a bad ingnition module (which is what the coil packs bolt to). Hope this gets you on the right track!
