Turn signals do not work

The combination stalk on my mercedes c240 (1998) does not work properly. The windscreen wipers work OK and the headlamp flash also works.. However the turn indicators do not come on when the lever is moved down and up as they should and it doesn't make a proper clickling sound like it should. The fuse is OK and the bulbs are OK as they light up when the hazard warning switch is on. Any ideas?

I'm guessing that the switch might be broken. If so, do I need to replace the whole stalk ro just part?

Any advice is glady accepted thanks!

The indicator stalks are a common problem i have had to change mine twice mine was the main beam flashers but the indicator does this also remember if replacing the stalk remove the battery as you will have to take air bag off and will need resetting if the fault come on not a hard job if your handy its an hours job connector is under the dash you access this by removing the panel under the steering wheel but i guarantee that its the stalk nothing else

Washer and intermittent wiper will not work on my Mercedes c280 any ideas ?

most likely a bad switch, the turn signal lever/stalk is the switch for all three functions, wiper, wash, turn signal.

Rear windscreen washes when stalk pulled forward?

It should be that when you pull the stalk towards you the front wiper/headlight wiper operate, away from you for the rear wiper. It hasn't just rewired itself, and miswiring seems quite unlikely.

Has it been dismantled? Has any other electrical work been done near relays or fusebox?
Some history would be useful. I'm also wondering whether it could also be changed by programming the computer? If you don't have any history I would join a volvo forum and seek further advice before you start dismantling the stalk wiring.
not sure where you are in the world so here are a couple

Where is the signal flasher located

on the indicator stalk left and behind the steering wheel connected ot the steeing column if you push it away if will set the headlights to high beam if you push it towards you fully it will flash the headlamps.

the indictors to signal left and right are also on the left stalk push down for left and up for right.

the hazzard flasher is located in the middle of the dashboad above the radio and is a red triange depress once to activate and once again to deactivate.

if the wiper active at any time then try the stalk on the oposite side of the steering wheel.

Indicators only work spradically

Hi Team,

found a good garage who diagnosed the problem was due to a failed relay; relay and stalk have since been replaced. The windscreen motor is a separate issue and also needs replacing soon. So I'm happy my elderly Merc is back on the road again.
