SOURCE: Leaks oil looks like from valve cover

You have to remove the spark plugs cables and remove the four nuts that you see when the cables are removed.

When the four nuts are removed, simply raise the valuve cover. When replacing the gasket, make sure you get the gromets as well. Those sometimes get worn or crack since they are more exposed than the value cover gasket. Make sure that you clean the cover from oil and replace the gasket with no use of silicon.

Good Luck.

SOURCE: valve cover gasket replace on a subaru svx

ALL DATA time to R&R valve cover gaskets both sides is 2.1 hours. you will need to remove brackets and connectors on either side, It will also help to take the upper plenium bolts out but not completly pull the plenium. If you don't have a lot of mechanical experiance and some basic tools. you may want to consider to have a local a shop to perform this service for you after you get a estimate. RON.

SOURCE: how to remove the valve cover to replace gasket

What kind of engine? If it's a 3.0L Vulcan, you have to take off the upper and lower intake manifolds and you'll be able to take the valve covers off. There's a bunch to take off before you get to that point. The EGR Valve, Throttle body assembly, ignition coil pack, etc. Make sure you relieve the fuel system pressure (it might be behind the right side well cover of your trunk- disconnect that connection), and take off the negative battery terminal before begining work.

SOURCE: Head Gasket?? Valve cover Gasket???

most likely it is the valve cover gasket. it covers the valve train where there is alot of oil to lube the top of the motor. if the head gasket was leaking it may have more signs of running poorly. also having coolant leaks also. so i will have to say valve cover gasket. now usally you may have a oil burning smell with it depending on the area of the lek but not always.

the valve cover can easily be seen when the hood is open. it is right on the top and where it meets the clyinder head is where the gasket is and the leak can be seen.

if you have more question please ask.

My Bmw High mileage 320i E90 is having oil leaks problems they have changed the oil gaskets pipes from BMW butelp

clean the engine and check where it is coming from. Is it at the front of the rear> do you smell burning oil when you switch off the engine? Clean an area under the engine compartment and see where the oil is dripping from and get back to us. Typical places for leaks are the valve cover gasket, oil filter housing bracket.

Smoke comin from top rocker cover smell like burnin oil

Could the smoke be coming from the exhaust manifold on the passenger side of the engine? When the valve cover starts to leak, it is common for the oil to leak down and burn on the outside of the exhaust manifold.
Replacing a valve cover gasket is not difficult or expensive, and it is common for BMW valve cover gaskets to get brittle and shrink and start leaking every 10 years or so. My wife's 330 needed a new valve cover gasket at 6 years.

I was just informed that my 2004 525i needs the valve cover gasket replaced. My bill will be $795 for this. I'm not sure why, since I don't understand the process, and I'm hoping someone can explain this...

I show the average cost to replace a valve cover gasket on this 6 cylinder engine in this model and year as approx $300.00, so something else must have been done besides the valve cover. If it was just the valve cover gasket then you need to ask some questions about this outrageous repair bill!!

My source for prices is a nationally recognized labor and parts guide, here is the link to the estimate of the repair.

I pulled a spark plug to change plugs and the spark plug wire boot was all wet from oil. The other three plugs were fine. The rest of the engine looked fine apart from the regular dirty engine look. No oil...

yes, the valve cover gasket is the only thing that can cause this, and yes, you have to remove the cover and put a new gasket in to fix. Please let me know if you have more questions.

There are probably 8 - 12 bolts/nuts that attach the valve cover to the cylinder head. Remove the bolts, clean the mating surface, install new gasket, and reattach the valve cover with the bolts.
