In most cases, a code 24 fault on a Vauxhall Meriva 12 plate (assuming it's related to the rear number plate light) should not prevent the car from starting. Typically, a fault with the rear number plate light is considered a non-critical issue, and it should not affect the engine's ability to start or run.
The fault code is likely indicating that there is a problem with the rear number plate light circuit. It could be a blown bulb, a loose connection, a faulty wiring, or a problem with the control module related to the lighting system.
Number plate lights aren't usually fused separately but as they are mostly supplied by the sidelight/parking light circuits, the fuses of those circuits also protect the number plate lamp(s).
These days there are usually two fuses - one each for the left and right. One side usually also supplies the instrument lights and the other side the number plate lamp(s), though where there are two number plate lamps it isn't unknown for each to be supplied separately from each lighting circuit.
normally the number plate light is on the same fuse as the park lights . I would be looking for a fault in the number plate area ( broken wire or blown bulb or bad/ no earth)
First check the headlight relay by changing it with one of the same number in the fuse panel. If it checks out ok then you have a faulty headlight switch.
It should be your brake light switch. There is a little plate welded to the arm of the pedal that has a hole with a rubber stopper. The rubber stopper is most likely missing, or damaged. You should be able to take a flashlight and see the plate and the switch. If the hole is plugged up, you will need the brake light switch, if not, replace the plug.
hi from uk the number plate lights x2 are on same fuse as side+tail lights so if n/plate is not lit ?more likely bulbs have blown ? to access remove the panel from boot lid (clips+screws) then you will see rear of n/plate lights the bulb holders twist anti clock slightly and pull out replace bulbs with same type 5watt check all work b4 refitting panel
