The problem was a break light relay, not a glow plug problem.

I have a 2000 jetta TDI 1.9L. The glow plug light is flashing off and on and the car is running terribly. Code is reading P0380/glow plug monitor circuit. what do I need to do to fix the problem?

the code is for the Glo-plugs circuit A --malfunction=== causes wiring--glow plug relay--fuse-- glow plugs---ECM. Check the relay and the fuse

Just on cold start up the engine runs lumpy for about one minute, then the rest of the time it runs fine.

Make sure the block heater is working. But with high altitude and cold air this is somewhat normal for a diesel on cold start. If the glow plug indicator light flashes off and on quickly in the dash you may also have a burned out glow plug(s), this also causes a poor cold start.

My 2003 vw jetta tdi was running rough like a glow plug went out. I tested the glow plugs with a digital multimeter, one of the tested bad and replaced it and the problem is worse now. Could it be the glow...

If the engine is running, it is not the glow plugs as they are only used for cold starting and initial running and are switched off as soon as you move the vehicle or after 90 seconds, whichever comes first. You may have an injector issue or a turbo issue where the intake blades are clogged, the exhaust blades are clogged etc.
Take the vehicle to a professional and have them flow test the engine and check injector timing and fuel flow.
This will show up any air leaks etc in the injectors or any blockages in the intake and exhaust systems and any fuel issues.

2003 tdi, 54 k miles, bought car new, had manifold cleaned, new glow plugs and harness. car has been driven only short commutes for 3 years. Heavy blue smoke at startup, then it clears right up. No...

valve seals are going. when car sits excess oil gets past the valve seals then when you staRT up it burns the oil off then runs fine and no more blue smoke. It is fine to run like that had the same in a dodge caravan 1996 6cyl. ran another 100 000 km. and still ran fine got rid of it for other reasons.

GLOW PLUG LIGHT FLASHING WHEN RUNNING

this is going to sound stupid, but check your tail lights and brake lights for a dead bulp (lamp). this could be the cause, and will be VERY cheap to fix!

I have a 2003 TDI jetta and glow plug light keeps flashing when driving, checked for lose wires none found, Help!

Sounds like it is telling you that you need to get a glow plug replaced that is not functioning properly. Have a reputable shop let you know which one it is.

Glow plugs stay and wont shut off

Your problem sounds like the glow plug relay is faulty. It sees to be stuck in the closed position. It is mounted on the fuse board.

I have a 2002 Jetta TDI wagon

You have to remove the 3 screws and take the shroud off underneath the steering column and the panel should be right there.
