SOURCE: 90 Toyota 4Runner pinging noise

hi the pinging you here is ignition firing before it should but if you have a knocking noise i would suspect the worse but try doing a compression test first see if everything is in order then if this seems ok have you put fuel in it just before it started if so change your fuel if not see if the electrical system has a knock sensor if so run the engine and tap the block close to it see if engine revs drop if not replace but the knock is a piston best of luck yates210456

SOURCE: 96 toyota 4 runner won't run

try replacing your fuel filter and spark plugs, engine pinging results from a lower octane than recomended by the manufacturer and dirty gas being burned inside the combustion chamber. good luck!

SOURCE: Missing under load, When accerating or climbing a

Start with the simple things first. When was the last time you had a complete tune up? "Missing" could indicate bad spark plugs, bad spark plug wires, or bad cylinders. Change the plugs first, then go from there.

Why does my motor have a pinging sound

You did not mention when this pinging occurs (all the time? idle? lugging under load?). If it is in fact in the engine, it is most likely a timing issue which can get complicated because it could be caused by a problem with the distributor, timing chain or chain tensioner, one or more faulty engine sensors, etc.

However, there are other causes of this noise. Most pinging noises at idle or low RPMs are not usually in the motor itself but rather from rotating parts that periodically touch something, and often happen when something comes loose or is bent, bearings get worn, or something made it into the engine compartment that shouldn't be there (a tool, a rock, etc.). Typical examples are worn out HVAC fan, cooling fan or AC compressor clutch bearings; a cooling fan blade touching metal or a loose shield; and so on. If this is the case, you should try to locate exactly where this noise is coming from - a stethoscope from an auto parts store may help.

Why my 99 nissan quest pinging a lot during hot weather

Switch to premium to see if that is a temp fix. Then run a full strength fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank.

94 Cadillac Eldorado overheating uphill

This actually sounds like your motor is not the problem it sounds as
thougth your transmission is in need of work. if you have flushed your
system also may look at your oil pump system as the change in pitch of the road to climb hills may infact be pulling sludge against the sump
tube screen and plugging the oil pump. these are the only two reasons I can see for this to happen if system only dose this when climbing a hill

Pinging sound from vehicle

The pinging is commonly caused by fuel problems ... usually a tankful or two of premium will clear it up. If not have it checked.

The front and rear shocks are different. You can even check this by going to www.autozone.com

Engine light and cuts out at freeways speed when climbing up hil

Hi, williamtkr.

Have you changed your fuel filter lately? I had a vehicle once whose fuel tank that had a rusty seam. Every 10,000 miles or so, the rust flakes would clog the fuel filter, and the engine would sputter and stall when the vehicle was climbing uphill. If you idled for a bit, you could drive on for a ways, until the same thing happened.

A nearly dead fuel pump could cause the same problem, I suppose.

Good luck.

1997 Subaru Legacy GT 2.5L

Check the knock sensor.

The light comes on when you climb a hill, accelerate quickly or do anything that advances the timing a lot and the knock sensor doesn't hear the knocks (pinging). The engine timing is not retarded, so you get a misfire.

The computer turns off the CEL if it sees the car start and run with no misfire of this nature 4 times in a row.
