SOURCE: alarm activated, lights are flashing can't start vehicle
if alarm is activated, it could be shutting off the starter, hence no starting....you may have to have a locksmith or electronics place disable the alarm so you can at least drive the thing

It is likely one of your battery cables loose. Same thing just happened to me today. What you need to do is first lock the doors, and close them. Then you need to disconnect, and reconnect the battery cable, then if the security lights still blink you must use your key to unlock the door, then it should stop blinking, and start just fine.

SOURCE: my jeep grand cherokee started overheating at idle
try the water pump - first - make sure the radiator is really full - take the cap off cold and fill - if it looks full - start and run 8 minutes or so - then fill it up - look at ur fan belt - is it tight - tight is about how much pressure u use to make a firm hand shake with little movement - any movement over about an inch is loose - when the jeep warms up the belt can slip and not even make a noise - - new materials don't always squeal. - then be sure ur water pump is ok - they go slowing - the fins wear down - one more thing is the radiator - u don't say how many miles or what maintenance schedules you have or not so that's it for now

I have found the solution to this problem. I have replaced a total of 3 starter motors and has gone away for various periods of time. Further diagnosed when concern happened again starter
would work again after starter ignition feed wire wiggled. I found corrosion build up in connector at ignition feed wire. I replaced connector on wire to starter solenoid and concern has not returned.
Unlock all of the Jeep Grand Cherokee's doors and open the driver's side door. Keeping the door open, lock it using the manual lock on the door itself.
Put the manual key into the ignition and switch it to the "On" or "Run" position, whichever applicable, without starting the engine.

Point the remote at the receiver (located by the little bulb on the car ceiling) and hold down the "Lock" button for up to 5 seconds.
When the driver's side door unlocks, you know the remote has been programmed correctly. If you are only programming one remote, jump to the next step. If not, manually re-lock the driver's side door and repeat steps 5 and 6 using each remote you would like to program and then continue.
Turn the key to the "Off" position and turn the ignition on immediately. This must be done within 20 seconds of programming the last remote. You're finished!
