Driving from work and I was five min away from my house when my oil light beep on come on so I check the oil level on it was ok but the the light was on and stay on so I look on fine a wire come off the sensor so I put it back and the light come off but lately after drive for sometime it comeon
Try replacing the sensor. They are not usually very expensive.
When the engine is COLD! Remove the wire to the sensor and unscrew it. A deep socket will be easiest. The hole will only leak a small amount of oil. Wipe the excess oil out of the hole and fit the new sensor. Turn it until it is tight but DON'T force it. Reconnect the wire and clean away any spilt oil.

Changing oil can't hurt. When was the last time you had it changes? How many miles on that engine?Changing approximately ever 3,000 miles is common practice. The engine oil light and the automatic transmission are two seperate problems. Engine oil light come on because the sensor reads a low oil preasure. If the engine is not worn then the light can be caused by the sensor getting cloged up (from dirty oil ) and not reading the preasure correctly.

Start checking the oil level, if oil is low then the problem is a leak or weared rings.
If oil level is ok, check that the oil pump has enough pressure.
If oil pump is also fine, then scan the ECU (car computer) and replace the sensor if you do not find anything else being wrong.

o2 sensors will put your check-engine-light on. it is attached to the exhaust (closest to the motor)and rusts-out sometimes. you could try to fix it by buying the o2 sensor and use a socket-set to see if it loosens. i 'm not a mechanic but have had the issue, in the past, with the jetta II's and a 1997.the guys at vw dealers are great with info, if your a hands-on kinda guy/girl.
