My daughters 1991 plymouth acclaim won't start. Changed fuel pump (someone told here thats what he thought it was)still nothing. In fact now that I've checked,I don't hear pump click and no spark.I have heared of a relay switch that controls (ASD) spark,fuel,02 sens etc... Any suggestions.Ignition coil is good. Thanx Ken
Do me a favor and cycle the key to on, then off, then on, then off, then back to on,& leave it in the on position.(not start) Now watch & record any flashes of the check engine light. You will get a number of flashes, then a pause, then more flashes. for example: 3 flashes, pause, then 3 more, would be code 33. It will always be a 2 digit number. 2 flashes, pause then 5 flashes, is code 25. When you get 5 flashes, pause then 5 more, that's code 55 which means end of message. Get back to us with any codes that flash.
I get 3 5 5 can u tell me the problem with it
3 doesn't register, must have missed a flash or something. 55 is end of message.
Are you getting power to + side of coil when key on, as well as cranking it over? The ASD ( automatic shut down ) relay should be the one closest to front of car on drivers fender area under hood. Have you tested for power at coil, and checked for spark at plugs for sure? Also, lift distributor cap off and crank it over to make sure distributor shaft is turning as well. Let me know.
it flashed 5 times does that mean its the coil

I will try it out,They did offer to sell whole dist. unit for about 50.00,I wasnt sure that was it, I was researching a little deeper. This car isnt worth that much but up till now it has run fairly good.My daughter has 2 little ones so I have to get it running as cheap as possible.I just spent 170.00 on fuel pump.So tnanx for your help.
Replace the hall effect pick-up assembly inside the distributor. Remove the cap and rotor, it's the black plastic thing with wires coming out the side, remember which way it's in there.
changed fuel pump filter got spark and fuel
