Your freon level is low, and not circulating on slow compressor speeds. Stop by any shop that has a sign stating they work on a/c and they can recharge it for you in a few minutes. Here where I live they charge about $20.00 labor plus a charge for the freon they put in, they sell it by the pound.

I always use a shop because they don't just top off the antifreeze. They pump out what's there, removing all of the moisture and air that might be in your system and then replace it. You get credited for the freon out and only pay for the extra they need to put in. It could be that your accumulator has too much moisture in it to work effectively at lower pressures that you have at idle, or that your compressor is having problems. Did you or a shop change the freon?

It's one of the very few things i don't do myself. I had a bad experience with topping off my freon with one of those do it yourself kits from NAPA. Ended up with a $300.00 plus repair job after blowing an O-ring. I have an a/c only shop near me and topping off is the most frequent reason they see for major failures.

Make sure your fan clutch is working. No fan, no cooling of the condenser, no heat dissipation, no cold air. Start the truck and make sure you feel air movement, a lot.

97 Grand Cherokee larado dies when you slow down or are stopped. Some bucking/stalling when driving it. We have replaced trottle sensor and igination coil; change air filter; but we did just install a new...

The ac compressor does put an additional load on the engine.
Any minor problem with performance can be amplified with the ac on.
I would check fuel pressure and look at the idle air control valve.
Also check the computer for trouble codes.
Both 6 and 8 cyl engines use a cap rotor and wires arrangement, so it wouldn't hurt to make sure those components as well as the spark plugs are in good working order.
The bucking on the road and stalling at stops could be two different issues.

Air conditioner wont cool off.

While your hood is open and engine running can you hear the air conditioner compressor kick on and off as the engines idleing. Check the fuse for the ac unit. And worst case it could be your compressor witch can be pretty spendy.

Heat/ac not working on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited

look for Main A/C relay, look for fuses, or go to a/c shop and have gas check out, perhaps leaks, perhaps evaporator, perhaps condenser, but start for relay box on front passengers side, or fuses on same side
