All electrical systems blink when car is running. Lights are most obvious; however, also heater fan lulls rhythmically along with lights blinking. Initially believe to be a short, but with blinking occuring on entire, short not logical. Second, believed to be voltage regulator and/or altenator; however, battery stays strong with car starting consistently. Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated.

t sounds like there might be a short circuit somewhere in the electrical system of your 1986 Buick Riviera. This could be causing the battery to drain and the dash lights and interior lights to behave abnormally. I would suggest checking the wiring and connections in the car to see if there is any obvious damage or loose connections. It may also be helpful to use a multimeter to test the electrical system and find the source of the short circuit

Ck ur alternator, maybe going bad?how about ur headlights?

go into the radio and change it there. If they work when it is running then the radio
is where you look

For some reason the alternator output is very low when the lights are dim. Something happens to bring output up to normal when they get bright.
Slipping belt, or an electrical problem.

This indicates a malfunction in the system, have the dealer scann it for the cause.

The cooling and heating systems in this car have self diagnosis and blink the two lights in the lower right corner if there is a fault. Are these blinking? If so what pattern. I am going to assume you have checked the fuse. If that is good you may need to take the motor out and test that. This take a Torx driver. 6 of these takes the glove box insert out and then 3 more take the motor out it is a tight squeeze but after a while you'll get it (no real tips on how to it takes some time) then you can test this with a battery charger or other 12 source. If the fan works here then there is a fault in the wiring or in the switch-box itself.

It sounds as if you may have an air pocket in the system, alot of your saturn and gm vehicles have air bleed on or near the thermostat housing. As you are filling the system you will need to have this bleeder open until a steady stream of coolant comes out.

With my 1998 TC you have to start car turn to cold and fan on high. Tehn hold down the rear wiper and WASH buttons until the lights start flashing differently. Let it run through until only the rear wiper light is blinking. You should here it cycling through the different functions. When it is jsut the rear wiper blink press that button and the system is reset if there are no problems. A low voltafge problem had caused mine to act up.
