SOURCE: 1979 Ford Thunderbird alternator not charging

Are the connections really dirty at the voltage regulator? These tend to get corrosion on them and cause weird charging system issues. Also make sure the ground is good on the regulator.

SOURCE: Both fuel pump relays run

You could have a bad fuel pump relay switch. The fuel pumpmag-glass_10x10.gif relay switch gets the fuel pump running in the vehicle during the start cycle. The terms fuel pump relay and fuel pump relay switch are used interchangeably. The fuel pump relay begins its job when the automobile operator turns to the ignition on, but before the motor is actually running. At that point, the fuel pump relay in some cars sends a signal to the ignition switch, which in turn sends a signal to the fuel pump to turn on. Others fuel pump relays have actual circuitry inside of them that receive the ignition signal and directly signal the fuel pump to engage.

Have a great day!

Yes, a coil is a possible cause, and so is a relay or other electrical component.
You need to figure out if you have lost fuel pressure or spark when it stops running to know what to look for.

Need the torque specs for the straight six 300 ford motor

Here is the spec for 1977 through 1984 on the Ford 300 or so called now the 4.9 engine:
Cylinder head bolts: 70-75 lbs. The sequence is driver's side starting on bolt one (fifth bolt in line of bolts or center of line of bolts) and going straight across to bolt 2 on passengers' side and then to the side of bolt 2 is bolt 3 and back across to bolt four to the right of bolt 1. This is done in a zig -zag pattern until all bolts are torqued to recommended torque.

segon s version
rear front
13 9 5 1 4 8 12 torque specs are in three steps
11 7 3 2 6 10 14 1) 55lbs 2) 65lbs 3) 85 lbs
all info from the book

I got a 1990 ford ranger 2.9 v6 its running very crappy

Fluctuating an high RPMs sounds like a leaking or missing vaccume hose to me, I had simmilar problem found open hole with hose off, replaced it now the RPMs are under 1000 again.
As for the stalling I also am having a simmilar problem, and am finding air in the fuel rail, I suspect the fuel pump is going.
I cant go more than a mile without problems.

Carborator will not hold a prime

Sounds like the needle valve and seat are leaking in both. The needle valve shuts off the fuel and holds it in the float reservoir. If the valve does not seat properly it allows the fuel to drain out overnight. You may need to overhaul the carburetors. You also may have a pin hole in the float. You can check that when you open it up.

Motor stalls when driving then starts and stalls right away.

Replace the distributor's magnetic pickup located inside the distributor surrounding the distributor shaft, the only other thing thankfully on this ignition system if memory serves me on the f 150 straight six 300 cu inch is the dura spark ignition control box, of course do the obvious tune up parts replacement dist.cap rotor, plug , sparkplugs before spending the $40.00 - $50.00 bucks on the dist.. pick up, you may have a weak a fuel pump check for adequate fuel pressure at carb 7 - 10 lbs.
