The vehicle speed sensor and speedometer are one in the same on this model I believe. If one goes out it takes the other with it if its all electronic and not cable driven.

SOURCE: speedometer does not always work 95 cherokee orvis need help

Sounds like the speedo sensor needs to be replace on the transmission. I've had a similar problem with my Jeep with the sopeedo not working then work after the tranny heats up then after a period of time the needle started to jump when at 100 km or 60 mph. I changed the sensor and the problem went away. Good luck!

Speedometer is not working properly it only goes up to 20mph

You can try replacing the speed sensor that is mounted on the tail end of the transmission housing.
This issue seems to be the reason for your speedometer problem.

I seem to have had my speedometer sensor go down. Is this a common problem? Anyone out there can tell me how to change this?? Thanks. All help is appreciated. Robyn

This often happens after a transmission has been replaced. It is caused by unsecurely fastened speedometer cable to the transmission. The transmission is where your speedometer senses speed and is laborious to properly fasten the connection and is often overlooked.

We bought a 1995 jeep grand cherokee orvis edition...the truck will not go into reverse...it makes a wierd grinding noise

Be sure that the truck is fully engaged in two wheel drive. It may have slipped out of gear on the transfer-case. Move the lever for 2 and 4 wheel drive back and forth a few times before shifting transmission.Good luck

The speedometer on my 2002 Grand Cherokee Jeep stop working?

I believe your speedometer works off of a sensor either in the wheal or transmission, check this first then check your speedometer, sometimes they go bad and you have to replace the entire dash.
