newer cars are far worse.
1: lost radio codes. secret code.
2: lost NAF codes
3: PCM relearns for a vast array of new stuff (no you) but TBW , and other tricky new systems, on newer cars.
4: lost radio program settings.
5: got and IMMO? that may need help. is the IMMobilzer lamp on?
6: Security system needs to be reset.
the 6 reason to not jump start someone else.
unless prepared, (owning the FSM covers that)
what happens is the dead cars battery overloads your cars battery
and cause all computers on the car to go dumb.
most 96 cars this is not a problem
but some makes are more advanced, in this regard.
Security and IMMO started early with toyota and is the most
secure of them all, (read, hard to fool it)
IMMO
fixya has the largest list IMMO toy failures on earth.
IMMO hints
With the gen 3 (1993-1997) camry's the remote, that unlock/locks the cars doors, is what disables the immobiliser. I believe that the gen4 onwards had the chip in the key.
and
If you open a Camry of that era without using the remote (ie using the key), you have to wait half an hour before you can start the car - the immobiliser signal comes from the same remote as the central locking, so if the remote is dead the immobiliser won't let you start until half an hour after opening the car. This is to prevent people from smashing open a window and trying to hotwire the ignition - they can do that, but they have to wait the 30 minutes, during which time their break-in is most likely going to be evident (what with the alarm screaming and all)
i told you toy has very advanced security...tricky ,
Immobilizer seems to be active, same with your alarm. May be faulty, need to replace.
