How to resolve problem with opel zafira automatic gear not working after changing engine gasket due to overheating

When encountering issues with an Opel Zafira's automatic transmission not working properly after engine repairs, especially following a gasket replacement due to overheating, several potential causes might be at play. Here are steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. **Check Transmission Fluid Level:** Ensure the transmission fluid is at the correct level. Low fluid levels or improper fluid type can lead to transmission issues. If the transmission fluid was drained during the engine repair, it might not have been refilled properly.
2. **Inspect Transmission Wiring and Connectors:** Examine the wiring harness and connectors around the transmission. Sometimes during repairs, these connections might be accidentally disrupted or left disconnected, causing issues with the transmission's electrical system.
3. **Resetting the Transmission Control Module (TCM):** The TCM controls the shifting of gears in automatic transmissions. Disconnecting the battery for a while (about 15-30 minutes) can sometimes reset the TCM, potentially resolving minor electronic glitches.
4. **Scan for Error Codes:** Use an OBD-II scanner to check for any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to the transmission. This will provide insight into specific issues that might be affecting the transmission's functionality.
5. **Perform a Transmission Fluid Flush:** If the transmission fluid appears old, burnt, or contaminated, it might hinder the transmission's operation. Consider performing a transmission fluid flush and replace it with the manufacturer-recommended fluid.
6. **Check for Vacuum Leaks:** Vacuum leaks in the engine can affect the transmission's performance. Ensure there are no vacuum leaks in hoses or components related to the engine repair.
7. **Seek Professional Diagnosis:** If the issue persists after these checks or if you're uncertain about performing further troubleshooting, it's advisable to seek assistance from a certified mechanic or a dealership experienced with Opel vehicles. They can conduct more in-depth diagnostics using specialized tools and equipment.
Keep in mind that issues related to an automatic transmission can be complex, and addressing them might require specialized knowledge and tools. Always prioritize safety and consider seeking professional help if you're unsure about handling transmission-related problems on your own.

My 1993 Ford Explorer XLT will not go into reverse, it will roll backwards if pushed in neutral but it will not roll in reverse if pushed in reverse.

If your 1993 Ford Explorer XLT is not engaging in reverse, but will roll backwards if pushed in neutral, there are a few things that could be causing the issue:
  1. Transmission fluid: Check the transmission fluid level and condition. Low or dirty transmission fluid can cause issues with shifting and engagement.
  2. Transmission linkage: The linkage that connects the transmission shifter to the transmission may be damaged or misaligned. Check the linkage for any signs of damage or misalignment.
  3. Transmission solenoid: The transmission solenoid that controls the engagement of reverse gear may be malfunctioning. A diagnostic scan tool can be used to check for any error codes related to the solenoid.
  4. Internal transmission issues: It's possible that there is an internal issue with the transmission, such as a damaged gear or worn clutch. A transmission rebuild or replacement may be necessary in this case.
It's best to have a professional mechanic diagnose and repair the issue, as transmission repairs can be complex and require specialized knowledge and equipment. They can properly diagnose the issue and recommend the best course of action to get your vehicle back in working order.

Reverse went out and no overdrive 1996 Chevy Silverado

  1. ransmission fluid: Low or dirty transmission fluid can cause a range of transmission issues, including loss of reverse and overdrive. Check the transmission fluid level and condition, and consider flushing and replacing the fluid if it is dirty or low.
  2. Transmission filter: A clogged transmission filter can restrict the flow of fluid through the transmission and cause issues with reverse and overdrive. Consider replacing the transmission filter and flushing the fluid to see if this resolves the issue.
  3. Shift solenoid: The shift solenoid is responsible for controlling the flow of fluid through the transmission to engage different gears. If the solenoid is faulty or damaged, it can cause issues with reverse and overdrive. Consider having the shift solenoid tested and replaced if necessary.
  4. Valve body: The valve body is a complex component within the transmission that helps to control the flow of fluid and engage different gears. If the valve body is damaged or worn, it can cause issues with reverse and overdrive. Consider having the valve body inspected and replaced if necessary.
  5. Internal transmission damage: If none of the above issues resolve the problem, there may be internal damage within the transmission that is causing the loss of reverse and overdrive. In this case, it may be necessary to have the transmission rebuilt or replaced.
It's important to address these issues promptly to prevent further damage to the transmission or other components in your Chevy Silverado

What is error code 055 / 151 - can't erase It from my 1997 C230 benz - if I put new transmission fluid will it be fine ?

1.. The fault codes will remain until the issue with the transmission is fixed. If there was no issue the fault codes would not normally be generated.

2. Changing the transmission fluid will not fix the problem but there is no harm changing it,

3. Often with these codes there will be a problem with the transmission shifting gears. You have not mentioned in your question what, if any, drive symptoms you are having with the auto transmission. If you are having shifting issues I would suspect the valve body in the transmission will need cleaning and servicing provided there is no issue found with the Electronic Transmission Control .

What would cause my 1994 grandam transmission to stop working? the transmission was working fine with no indication of a problem. after stopping on a small incline it would not engage for drive

The transmission needs inspection. It can be gears got stuck up hard due to vehicle parked incline.
May be vehicle needs to be driven on slope for few seconds and then checked.
If can be solenoid issue or gear shift assembly issue.

For more transmission solution help, check the list mentioned below: -------

2001 pt cruiser has issues getting up to speed, sort of jumpy

Sounds like transmission issues. When a transmission slips, you'll notice the RPM's climb before accelerating. Could be a number of transmission issues at play here:
  • low auto transmission fluid
  • bad or burned auto transmission fluid
  • bad transmission module
