2009 chevy 1500 4 wheel drive when you turn the traction control off it still wonts to work when the tires spin.....why does it do this. if i wont it off it should turn off!!!!!!!

small sylinoid on the top of the transfer case needs replaced. easy to do. it has three vacumelines going to it just trun out and replace like a bolt.

The locking hub control system is not engaging properly. On the 99 Tracker this is a compressed air system that consists of an air pump (compressor), electrical wiring to power and control the air pump, and air hoses that lead to an actuator inside the front differential housing. If there is a leak in the system the PCM will run the air pump for 10 seconds and then shut off, and your propeller shaft can turn all day long, but the front axles will remain free floating. Turn on your key, not your engine, and engage four wheel high. Go listen near the passenger front bumper for the air compressor. If you hear it, then the compressor control and the compressor itself are likely fine. If it shuts off after 10 secs or so, and your 4WD light isn’t on, the PCM timed out the compressor out and shut the compressor off to protect it. You will have to find the leak and fix it. If you are lucky, it’s the air line leading to the front differential; and not the air line inside the differential housing, or the air bladder in the locking actuator, which also resides inside the font diff. If the compressor shuts off and the 4WD light is on (this means the PCM did not shut the air compressor off due to timeout, so the pressure switch read 5-7 psi and the pump shut itself off), you likely don’t have a leak, and something mechanical has the actuator hung up inside the front differential. Lastly if you don't hear the compressor run at all, you either have a faulty compressor, or some sort of wiring problem in that circuit.....it could be as simple as a blown fuse. Good luck.

DTC P1516 Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) Module Throttle Actuator Position Performance

Your vehicle has an electronic throttle body unit so it uses voltage signals to control throttle blade in the throttle body. There are a few different issues that can cause this problem.

First off there is a update for the PCM to address those codes, but you will have to take it to the dealer for that.

Second there is issues with the actuator on the throttle body binding up and causing the codes.

Third there is a yellow wire coming off the throttle body connector that breaks inside internally and cannot be seen to the naked eye. The best way to test that is to grab the wire about 5 inches from the connector and tug if it feels spongy or breaks, that

In 4A mode the center differential is electronically-controlled and rear drive wheel bias. The on-board computer monitors for any sign of rear drive wheel slip (loss of traction)

If loss of traction is detected, the center differential is told to send a share of the engine\'s torque to the front drive wheels. It will not let the front driveshaft turn at the same speed as the rear driveshaft.



What about traction management?

1997-2002 model Ford Expeditions offered an optional limited-slip rear differential (LSD). A conventional open rear differential was standard along with the conventional open front differential and the electronic locking center differential.

comment with out LSD, one tire can spin, on say ice.

2003 mustang when traction control light comes on the car lose power almost like shutting down, when it goes off it pick up speed.

The traction control system DOES cut your engine power when the tires spin. That is by design. The system cuts engine power to stop the wheels spinning and restores power once the wheels regain traction. It feels odd when the tires spin and power cuts out. It's good practice to lift off the accelerator when the system kicks in. Otherwise, if you are on gravel or slick streets the tires may spin, stop when traction control kicks in, and then spin again when power is restored. It is not an "elegant" solution but it does work for the most part.

On a 2002 Saturn vue does having the traction control off make a difference in tire wear ?

The only way it will make a difference in tire wear is if you are constantly spinning the tires and wearing them prematurely. If you are just turning traction control off but not spinning the tires any more than before you will not have any more wear.

I turn my traction control off and floor it and it wont let the tires spin what could be wrong whith it their aint no lights that come on

Hello! From what you are saying, am I correct to assume that when you turn off TC the light goes off? if this is the case and no trouble lights or messages are showing I suspect the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is faulty...VSS information is used to calculate torque convertor application, fuel cut off/speed and governance strategies... Modified drive train components such as final gear sets and/or tires alter VSS input values to the PCM...Have you changed tire /wheel size? If not it looks like a defective VSS...See diagram below...A couple of questions; Lets say your doing 60 MPH and want to pass...If you stomp on it does it perform in a normal fashion? Are there any other symptoms? If all is well then change the VSS...If it always has trouble accelerating the Throttle Positioning Sensor (TPS) may be at fault...It can be tested with a voltmeter...The VSS can not...Send a comment....Guru...Saailer

My 4 wheel drive isn't working. why are my tires spinning on the littlest patch of ice?

Hi Correia,
Having four wheel drive built onto a vehicle gives traction through all four wheels, meaning that if one of the four wheels looses traction all the driving motion is directed through that spinning wheel. When driving on snow, ice or mud, gently does it all the time! Gentle acceleration and slow down using gentle gear changes. Use the brakes as little as possible. Remember if you lock up the brakes and the vehicle begins to slide you'll have no control at all! Traction control is entirely different than four wheel drive. Traction control will control any wheel which begins to slip and thereby keep you in control.

What is traction control sistem

TRACTION CONTROL: An enhancement of an existing ABS system that prevents wheel spin while accelerating on wet or slick surfaces. It uses the same wheel speed sensors to monitor wheel speed during acceleration, but requires some additional control solenoids and a pump to apply braking pressure to control wheel spin. The traction control system brakes the drive wheel that's starting to spin to shift torque to the opposite drive wheel that still has traction. Most traction control systems only operate at speeds up to about 30 mph. Additional control strategies that some traction control systems use to limit wheel spin include reducing the throttle opening, upshifting the transmission, retarding spark timing and deactivating fuel injectors.
