My son's car is a 2002 Ford Focus SE, 5 spd manual transmission. The engine runs like a top. The problem is, when put into gear (reverse or forward) the car creeps along. It barely moves. It takes forever to get up to 25 mph. I did not take it out of town because I was afraid it would never get to highway speed. It shifts fine, it just doesn't fully engage. Unfortunately, I don't trust any of the shops in the Northern IL area where my son lives. I gotta figure out how it get the car 150 miles back home so my guy can check it out. If I'm looking at something major, I'm gonna junk the dang thing. Any thoughts?

Check your transmission fluid level if at all possible. If your fluid is low you won't be able to engage any gears as there isn't enough pressurized fluid to shift the clutch or selector in the transmission box. If that's fine, next check the selector link and check it is connected to the transmission (not totally unheard of for it to come loose). Still no joy then it's the clutch...sorry.

SOURCE: manual transmission takes effort to put in gear.

Have the clutch looked at. If the clutch is not releasing fully it makes shifting difficult. Have the trans fluid changed too, it isn't expensive and probably is listed under your maintanance in the owners manual

SOURCE: 06 ford focus 5spd. no 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear.

It sound like the gear linkage isn,t set up right, you wouldn,t always be able to engage a gear unless you rocked the car.

SOURCE: I have a 1966 Ford Falcon with a C4 transmission.

I would begin by replacing the filter if its not new, 2 possibility of issue, faulty shifting module or defective transmission rebuilt. just because it has been rebuilt does not mean the individual work on it did a good job. the less cost effective way is to locate used modulator from ebay or junk yard, if that does not rectified the issue than more likely it will be the tranny. the bad part is that I dont know of a company offer a bench test for the tranny modulator.

SOURCE: how do I take out the speed sensor on a 2002 ford

speed sensor may also refer to the ABS sensor which are place on the knuckle close to the drive axle

Testimonial: "It was not an easy repair as I had to take off the exhaust manifold to give me room to get my hands in there to pull the pin and sensor out. You and Taran pointed me in the right direction. I imagine I saved at least 200 dollars in labor and marked up price that a shop would have charged. Thanks for the help Keith McViker"

2002 Ford Focus SVT. Diagnose, while driving, a clunk, then vibration, attempting from 1st to 2nd shift, none occurred. Won't shift even to neutral. What things could be? Manual 6 speed transmission.

If you cannot change the gears when the engine is not running, then you probably have an internal transmission problem. Could be input shaft or cluster gear assembly

My 2002,ford focus se 5 SPD won't start at all no sound when key is turned. When key is in start position no dash lights come on and my anti theft light above hazards blinks continuously any ideas?

Verify battery condition by turning on headlights and seeing if they are bright. If ok, the theft system may be activated. Try locking and unlocking doors with the key fob. This will usually reset the theft deterent system.

When stopped gears sometime grind when shifting into 1st gear(2001 Ford Focus)

Then the clutch is not releasing properly & the continual
grinding will wear the gear teeth & you may also have worn
syncros, that will require you to pull the trans & go thru it, as well
as do a clutch replacement

Trying to find out how much oil the Triton V-10 takes when I do my oil change? I cant seem to find it or anyone who knows

It should be listed in the owners manual, but because of different oil cooler setups you may have to do the change yourself and add oil until the correct level is established..... for the first oil change.
Most likely 7 liters, but start with 5,run the engine to fill the oil filter, let it sit for 5 mins and recheck and fill to full.
Note the amount needed for next time.

2002 Ford Focus alternator replacement

I just did this for a friend this morning. Sounds scary bot it is easy.
1) remove P.S. fluid filler and pin it aside
2) remove radiator overflow canister and pin it aside
3) unplug wiring harnesses right over the alternator (back right of the engine compartment)
4) The scary part - remove the 3 engine mount bolts on that sode of the car
5) from the transmission jack up the engine just enough to tilt it forward slightly
6) it takes 2, tilt the engine forward and lift out the alt - you should have removed the belt at this time.,
7) take the sole (red) wire off of the alt.
8) finish in reverse order
