SOURCE: cigarette lighter broken

under the dash on the drivers side... there's also a fuse panel in the engine compartment near the battery...and i don't know about VW but bmw's have them in the trunk as well.... so if it's not under the dash look in the trunk.

SOURCE: which is the cigarette lighter fuse for a 98 jetta

It's a 15 amp (blue) fuze located above the relays on the fuse box. You need to remove the plastic fuse housing under the dash (two screws) and unclip the fuse tray and drop it down. The clips are white and are on the sides of the fuse tray, they just snap and swing back. Once you drop the fuse tray you will see several fuses above the relays. The blue one goes to the cigarette lighter. What a pain.

The air conditioner fuse is located on the fuse panel on the battery. It's the first of the 3 fuses there.

VW T28 84 TDI Transporter cigarette lighter not working

There are at least two reasons why this could be happening. Firstly (and this has happened to me) there could be a foreign body dropped inside the lighter socket, preventing electrical contact. Have a look and remove. Secondly the fuse to the cigarette lighter may be blown. Beware! Fuses do not blow without a reason. If blown, it could be that a conducting foreign body may have been dropped into the socket. Remove the fuse cover and locate the appropriate fuse. DO NOT REPLACE WITH A HIGHER AMPERAGE FUSE. Should be no more than 20 amps. If the fuse blows again, try the lighter on another vehicle. ( A good friend??) If that blows the fuse too then the lighter is faulty with a low resistance. If not then the lighter circuit on the vehicle needs to be checked by an auto electrician. Good luck!
Cheers, Don.

My cigarette lighter doesn't have power for my GPS. Do you know how to check or replace the fuse for a 2000 VW golf?

Hi,

first check all your fuses and replace any blown fuses.
if that fails you'll have to check connections, but i think the fuse responsible for the cigarette liter is fuse no 33.

Good luck!!!

Cant find the correct fuse for the front cigarette lighter that is not working. Trunk one works.

On some vecicles, fuses actually power more than one thing listed on cover. Check each fuse with a tester or remove to inspect. If none of the fuses are blown, then you may need to replace the the lighter plug.
