Our ga gage isnt reading right it floats from full tank to 1/2 to empty when we know we just filled it up it never shows the same amount of gas is ther a float in the gas tank and how do you get to it
The Sorento gs tank is under the floor in the back seat. Flip the seat bottom's forward and pull open the Velcro to access the top of the tank. The fuel pump and sender may be accessible from the top, but you might be unlucky and have t remove the tank.

gauge in-tank probably your problems. You can test it at connector near fuel tank . there is 2 kind of gauge one is 0 to 90 ohms or 0 to 250 ohms. if the reading is not good then gauge is defect
hope it helps
there is a fault with the sending unit in the fuel tank, if the gauge can move to full when you fill the tank it is good. only way i know how to test the sending unit is to take it out of the fuel tank and hook a meter to the float wires, move the float manually and the meter will go to zero if the unit is bad
The problem is with the sensor inside the gas tank since the method of indication used is by passing an electric current & the resistance to that current is a measure of level of liquid in the tank , i.e.
the gauge consists of two parts:
The sensing unit
The indicator
The sensing unit usually uses a float connected to a potentiometer.
As the tank empties, the float drops and slides a moving contact along
the resistor, increasing its resistance. In addition, when the
resistance is at a certain point, it will also turn on a "low fuel"
light on some vehicles. However if this float gets stuck to the bottom of the tank or a leak fills up the float making it sink to the bottom of the tank, thus always indicating 'E' for empty.........................sodeep
Yes there is a float that is connected to the sending unit in the gas tank. In order to get to it, you have to remove the tank (drain it first) and it all comes out the top of the tank. You will probably want to buy a whole sending unit to put in there. I'm not sure about yours, but the fuel pump and the sending unit may be all one piece. It's not a fun job, so you don't want to do it twice. I would change the fuel pump while i had it out anyway. Good luck!
hello, it sounds like it has something to do with your fuel sending unit located inside your gas tank,on the sending unit it has a float arm that reads the fuel level, some times that float arm gets jammed and wont show your actual fuel level,to fix this with your gas tank at least half full use a rubber mallet or any other object that wont damage the tank and with your key in the start position with the car not running but reading your gages hit the gas tank not to hard but hard enough to lodge the float arm loose, if this is unsuccessful then it will probably be a bad fuel sender location sensor located on the actual fuel sender if that's the case you'll need a new fuel sender. good luck and please send me a update or any questions let me know.
