Third brake light on constantly, other brake lights seem not to work at all
The car is a 2006 Chevy Cobalt. Our third brake light is lit constantly & the other brake lights don't seem to work. What can this be? How can I fix it?

check the brake light switch and then check the bulbs fo the lower brake lights, u will most likely find the lower brake light bulbs burnt out and the brake light switch is defective.check the brake light switch and then check the bulbs fo the lower brake lights, u will most likely find the lower brake light bulbs burnt out and the brake light switch is defective.

Re: Third brake light on constantly, other brake lights...
It sounds like you need a brake light switch. It is mounted under the dash on the pedal assembly. It is easy to change, just twists in place. Good Luck

Are the brake lights the ONLY lights that do not work? Does the third (high mount) brake light work when you apply the brake pedal?
The Hummer H3 is basically a Chevy Trailblazer in Hummer clothing.. so the first place to look is the brake light fuse. If it is good, then check for power at the brake light switch mounted near the top of the brake pedal pivot area. Also be sure that the bulbs themselves are OK.
Sounds like a bad turn signal switch. I bet if you wiggle the turn signal lever while you have your foot on the brake pedal the left and right brake lights ill intermittently work.
Brake light problem - if bulbs and fuses (#34 and #43 in rear fuse panel) are good, then only other possibility are the circuit boards where all the tail lights are located.
Noise coming from rear is the mode control actuator in the rear HVAC unit, it is trying to move a stuck blend door.
3rd brake lights are usually just held with 1 or 2 screws.if the clip or plastic it screws into is stripped, you can usually find a used part pretty cheap.it may just need to be screwed down.the metal clips may be found at a hardware store.
I've worked on these the first drove me crazy. its the turn signal switch every thing runs thru these. head lights, turn signal, brakes. except the third brake light. it runs directly from the brake switch. go figuare
There is no fuse for the third brake light that I know of, it is wired into the main brake light wiring on most cars anyway. Probably the bulb is blown.
