So why would the check engine light just turn off atfer I started my car for a third time?

  • mr_bigblock May 21, 2009

ok! well the car made a hard shift going but a hill and then the check engine light came on. But last week and also last fall when I would back out of my driveway then put the car in drive it would pretty well die when I stemp on the gas I would assume thats the P0725 code. So I guess I can just leave it until I die on the side of the road then! What do you think?

some sensors need to be cycled 2-3 times (heated and cooled) to callibrate to the BCM.

clear the codes using a OBD reader and see if they come back.

Your BCM may be on its way out if it is misreading multiple sensor inputs. (p1243 code is telling).

Check the BCM plugs for looseness as well.... if the plug is loose - the BCM needed to recallibrate the sensors (thinking they are new).

You say it happened on a hard shift - so that tends to jiiggle things around a bit.

Reset the codes, and then re-read them if/when you experience another CEL condition.

If its another P1243 - you'll need to look into replacing the BCM I think.

None of these conditions will "leave you stranded" They are simply reporting a faulty reading from sensors not involved with the drivetrain or ignition.

They are all transmission related - check the wiring harness for damage - corrosion - or bare wires as well.

2007 escalade engine light came on today

This is not an answer really, but just some info. The check engine light does not monitor the engine as much as it does the emission control devices and sensors. You might have a bad sensor and that light will come on--even though there is nothing wrong with the engine itself. Oftentimes something gets out of whack and the light gives a false signal... the dealer can just reset something in the computer and the light will go out. A non-dealer repair shop will only read the code and advise you to replace whatever it says is broken. So I would advise going to a dealer in this instance.

My 2005 Odessay Touring van has a VSA light that has gone on about ten times today. Each time I have to turn off the ignition and turn it back on in order to make it go official. However only once did the...

Thanks for the info... that fixed the problem with the VSA light going on. The error code had nothing to do with the VSA system. Error code said I was low on oil. The dealer I brought it to said the VSA system will not work when you are low on oil. When the VSA warning light comes on, you loose 80% of your engine power because of it. They changed the oil and I have not had the VSA warning light go on since.

MY 2005 Jeep grand \cherokee limited has been

the reason the oil light and power steering are on and gone is that the engine stalled out, which means no oil pressure, and without the engine running you have no power steering.when you say dealer do mean a jeep dealer?
if no current codes were in the computer, did they go into the history of codes to see if anything was there?
if it is a soft code which is one that will reset it's self when you cycle the key off to on,they won't find a current code if you pull over and turn the key off.May be you could let one of the mechanics drive it home 1 night and return it in the morning, that way he can drive it with the scan tool hooked up,you will have to be aware of what speeds you were doing, was you at a red light, going up hill, using the brake, you need him to know exactly what you were doing so he can drive the same way to duplicate the problem.
also have them check any TBS's for this problem,
Technical Service Bulletins, from Chrysler and Jeep .

Mazda Sentia 929 auto failure

Rebuilt gearbox probably... unfortunately!
If the HOLD light in the in strument cluster is flashing at you, it is giving you a transmission diagnostic code (like a kind of Morse Code). A transmission specialist or a Mazda Dealer will be able to read this code and plug their computer into the cars computer, and tell you what is wrong.
