1997 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2 liter won't start

I have replaced coil, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, cam sensor, crank sensor, and fuel pump but have no spark. I have power to the coil when key is on and very low power when key is cranking over. Any ideas?

I WOULD SAY IT IS THE COMPUTER {BRAIN} THAT IS WHAT SENDS THE FIREING ORDER AND VOLTAGE AND SETS THE TIMEING SPECK I WOULD SAY CHECK THE COMP

  • actionair3 Jun 16, 2011

I had a problem with my 1997 Dodge it would start no problem and then the next time you went to start it it would not give fire the fuel pump was working but no spark. This trouble was very intermittent and frustrating to track down.I ended up cleaning the battery connections especially the negative connections I then measured with my ohmmeter the resistance of the black wire running from the fuse/breaker the hood after the alternator fuse running to the alternator. This connection measured >than 1 meg I then cleaned this connection inside the box and at alternator end and it then measured approx 5 ohms. The truck has now not missed a beat for over two weeks and is running great. This is after I had already replaced a computer, coil, plugs, rotor, distributor cap and pickup coil.

What does the "brain" look like? The auto parts store gave me an ignition control module to try, but I could not find it anywhere in the engine compartment.

2000 318 ram van wont start new ecm sensors got spark gas

If you are getting spark to the plugs and fuel spray, and you have compression and the spark is at the right time, you should have explosion.
Is it possible the valve timing is off - timing chain issues ?
Are the new plugs fuel-fouled ?

My dodge 3500 van cranks but will not start

Check to make sure your fuel pump is pumping by having somebody turn the key to the acc on position not starting the vehicle, this should make a buzz sound, or check fuel pressure. If you are getting fuel, make sure you have spark. Could be the fuel pump or just a coil. Make sure all ground wires are tight. This would be a good time for a tune up. When my truck did this it was just a ground wire. The second time it was the connector to the coil. I replaced the spark plugs, wires, dist cap and rotor, coil, and pcv valve. Now everything is good. 1994 Dodge Ram 1500 with 210,000 miles.

97 dodge ram no spark

then i would replace whats called the hall effect sensor its that black plastic plate you see when you take dist cap off. just pull rotor and lift up the sensor.dist cap is what holds it on.also under the sensor will be a stamped sheet metal piece that looks like the top of a castle wall. make sure its not loose on the shaft.if it is then new dist will be needed

1997 dodge ram won't start. My fuel pump does not run and coil won't spark. Iv'e checked fuses and relays and they look fine. Could a bad fuel pump cause the asd to kill power to the coil?

First check any ignition/fuel related fuses. Check to make sure you have 12 volts coming into the pump and coil. If nothing to the fuel pump replace the fuel pump relay - if you do have power to the fuel pump then replace the pump. If nothing is coming to the coil it is either an ignition relay or a wiring issue. If you have 12 volts to the coil but no spark then replace the coil.
Also the fuel pump/relay would not kill the coil.

We replaced the crank sensor and cam sensor on a new 5.2 engine in a 1998 Dodge Durango. We checked and rechecked the connections and still no spark.

check the wiring harness at the coil, sometimes that plug will get loose or dirty resulting in a no spark.
The only ign system parts are the crank sensor, cam sensor, dist, dist cap, rotor, spark plugs, wires, and coil, and the ecm which controls all of these,is there a check engine light on?
run a scan tool to check for stored codes or system events stored in the ecm.
