Hi, there is a gurgling sound coming from my BH5 2 litre N/A Legacy. Yesterday it started overheating, it has yet to reach past 3/4 on the temp gauge but that's only because I stopped driving it

Sounds that you are low on coolant so low that the coolant sensor is no longer immersed in it If the coolant sensor is prevented from working, due to low levels of coolant, then the engine radiator cooling fan will not be started and overheating will result. The gurgling you hear is due to air in the system. When the engine is cold remove the coolant reservoir cap. Set the interior heater to max temperature. Top up the reservoir to the maximum limit with water/antifreeze mix (2:1 is usual). Start the the engine. Be prepared to add more coolant mix as air is cleared from the system. When the top hose from the engine to the radiator gets warm give it plenty of squeezing to help shift any air pockets. The fan should also start at about this time. Make sure that the interior heater is blowing hot air. When the gurgling has stopped and no more coolant needs to be added to stay at the max level then replace the reservoir cap and secure it firmly. Allow the engine to reach running temperature. Check all hoses, junctions, gaskets water pump seal etc for any signs of leaks as it would be good to detect any cause for the previous loss of coolant.

My toyota 4runner is overheating but i have no water leak and yet my radiator is losing water

SOUND LIKE HEAD GASKET LEAK.CHECK ENGINE OIL FOR SIGNS ANTIFREEZE CONTAMINATION..OIL WILL LOOK LIKE MILK SHAKE.IF USING WATER IT EVAPORATES AT 212 DEGREES. ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE CAN CLIMB UP TO 220 DEGREES.IF OIL IN CRANK CASE LOOKS GOOD.ADD 50/50 WATER AND ANTIFREEZE. ANTIFREEZE WILL RAISE BOILING POINT TO KEEP COOLANT FROM EVAPORATING.SEE IF YOU LOSING WATER ITS BOILING AWAY LIKE WATER IN A TEA KETTLE.

How would i know if i have a cracked block on my cavalier

  • Check to see if your engine is leaking oil and/or coolant. This causes your engine to overheat and if it's not fixed, it can cause it to freeze up.

  • 2

Check your oil and antifreeze for contamination. If your oil or antifreeze looks different in any way, have it tested by a lab to determine if contamination has occurred.

  • 4

Check the level of fluid in your radiator. If your car suddenly loses a lot of coolant or the level is very low, this can indicate a cracked block.

  • 5

Look for excessive smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe.

  • 6

Check the radiator's coolant mixture of antifreeze and water to determine if it has frozen.

  • 7

Check to see if the engine has overheated severely. Overheating can be caused by another engine problem, but the effect of the overheating can be a cracked block.

not sure if i understand everything, the ac,will drain condensation water under the car, that a sure sighn that its working properly, the air conditioning system has almost nothing to do with the engine and the coolant system, directly,it runs off a belt powered by the engine,if you overheated your engine ,bad enough, meaning that the second you noticed the car was hot you didnt immeaditly pull over and shut it down,or even if you did.it may not have been soon enough, remove the oil fill cap look at the bottom of it for sighns of antifreeze or water, brown milky substance looks like choclate milk,

My car is overheating. i got an oil change. i flushed the radiator. i changed the fan sensor. help. 96 cougar xr7. oil pressure runs high and then temp. overheats.

You probably have a bad head gasket. As coolant mixes with the oil, it diludes and therefore will cause your oil pressure to run high. Check your oil while warm to see if it looks like choclate milk. Check your tail pipe for white smoke. You can also rent a block tester from Autozone ($25.00 with Autozone's free loan-a-tool program) and buy the test fluid for $8.99. Take off your radiator cap and put the cone in while your engine is running an within operating range. Fill the test fluid to the fill line and squeeze the aspirator for two minutes. If the fluid turns yellow or green, you have combustion/emission gases in your cooling system. This is caused by a bad/leaking head gasket or a cracked/warped block/head. Hope this helps out.

My 96 Eldo Norstar is overheating only when I idle. Pressure is good. No leaks but it needs fluid every other day or so. What could be the problem?

if you dont have external leaks.check crank case oil if it look like milk shake you have a head gasket leak or intake.you can lose coolant if you got a small intake leak the antifreeze leak in combustion chamber burn with gas.if all good .you have more water than antifreeze water will evaporate away causing low coolant then it will over heat.

    OIL IN ANTIFREEZE

Everyone automatically assumes that oil and water mixing means a blown head gasket or cracked engine block. Of course common sense is usually not that common. Oil in coolant is a different problem than coolant in oil. The former is a low pressure leak, and could indicate only an intake manifold gasket. It could also be an early or small head gasket leak. Coolant in oil is usually a cracked block or torn head gasket, and has concomitant symptoms of white exhaust smoke and milky oil on dipstick. If you replace the head gasket and the problem persists, an intake gasket could have fixed the problem.
