Security light flashing,

Car starts up then dies, losing ground to fuel pump, turn key off, wait a few seconds, turn key back on, pump runs-builds up fuel pressure, start car, runs afew seconds & dies, but fuel pump won't kick back on untill you cycle the key again. i've tried unlocking the passenger door, still doesnt reset the security system, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

2 things bad ground wire on the fuel pump... Check the connector block at the back of the trunk on the right side behind the passenger seat for water intrusion or corrosion.. Clean it and try to seal it from more water intrusion.

And badly worn key.. Easy to fix as this generation doesn't have a "chip to encode" in the key. Just get a new blank from ebay for about $20, and get a good locksmith to jig cut the blank for you (about $35.), you'll find the code in your glove compartment on a label in most cases.

(if these 2 things don't work the fuel pump may be dying and be in need of replacement) FYI: this happened to my 87. The key cut looked completely different than the one i got with the car. And works perfectly. :-D

Car dies.no security light flashing, engine cranks but no starts, fuel pump does not run, next day starts up.Any idea?

fuel pump
,It could be a weak, faulty fuel pump, try this next time no start happens, try key on and off 5 times, without starting and wait 10 seconds between cycles. This sometimes brings the fuel pump prime up to pressure and engine will start.

Starts then dies & won't restart

check fuel pressure, should be 40 psi.
try 2 things

spray starting fluid in air intake to see if it will stay running. It's fue then.

Try turning key to on nd wait 5 seconds for system to build pressure and pump to shut off. Turn key off, wait for relay clcik noise or 10 seconds. then turn key to ON again and wait 5 seconds to build pressure again. Then start engine. If it starts better, you have a bad check valve in the fuel pump or a bad pressure regulator on the fuel rail (unlikely).

It will start for a second or two then just die.

Is there a security light flashing on the dash? If so you will need to leave the key in the on position for 10 minutes (until it stops flashing) and then turn the key to the off position and wait about a minute. Then turn the key back on and try to start the vehicle. Does your key have a chip in it? You may need a new one if it does. You can try and just clean it off.

It starts & then immediatly shuts off..... but will keep running if i spray ether into the carb not a plugged injector, not a fuel pump, and the rails are getting fuel

check the fuel pressure in the rails. There may be a low pressure that will not allow the spray to be misted enough. It could be a clogged fuel filter also.

My 2002 LS is hard to start after it sit awhile I change the fuel filter and the spark plugs and the coils on each plug but it still hard to start could it be my fuel pump is losing pressure when it sit...

it is very possible and i can tell you a way to help you see if that is the issue. after your car has sit a while (as long as it usually takes before it acts up) jump in the vehicle and turn the key to the postion just before the vehicle begins to turn over when all the dash lights come on. when the key is put in this position the fuel pump runs for a few seconds and then stops until vehicle is cranked, allow the pump to run for 5 seconds then turn the key back off. then return the key to the "run" postion i mentioned before and wait a few seconds then try to start it. if it fires right up you have allowed the vehicle to build fuel pressure before you started it, indicating you have a fuel pressure issue and you are most likely looking at a weak fuel pump.

CAR WON'T STAY RUNNING

when key on and engine off, does the security light flash constantly? if so its shutting down the fuel pump, it starts momentarily due to the computer priming the engine with fuel. how to reset, turn key to run position, leave it on touch nothing, takes 10-12 minutes, start watching light around 10 minutes. it will stop flashing... turn key off, then back on and start this will reset the security system. they are sensitive on this platform car it will happen again. good luck!

99 GMC Sierra Pickup: Crank but no start. starts with starting fluid but dies. changed out the fuel filter. still not start. Do I have a bad Fuel Pump? Security light flashes then goes solid after 10 min....

The theft light issue is a good observation. Have you replaced the key tumbler or an ignition component lately? Has there been a lightning storm close very recently?

What the flashing security light is indicating is an attempt to relearn the key you are using.
Turn the key to run position, allow light to flash for 10 minutes, when light stops flashing turn ignition to OFF position for 5 seconds, turn ignition to run position and start over. Do this for 3 consecutive cycles, the the theft system will relearn the key cylinder code and store it once again.
Try that first before you go any further.
Let me know what you find.

99 Yukon Starting Problem

If you turn the key to the run position and listen carefully you should hear the fuel pump come on for a few seconds. If not...it's either a bad pump and or relay. Most have a check valve up on the fuel rail of the motor that is used to check fuel pressure with a gauge. If you hear the pump running and still have a no start you need to hook a gauge to this valve to check fuel pressure. Specs for your exact vechilce can be found on-line. If pressure to low could be clogged fuel filter or pressure regulator...if to high then its the regulator. Been down this road before so I gotta say it...make sure you have fuel in the tank ;-)

Car will not start

you might have a bad key.The security system uses the key chip to keep the fuel pump running.
