That error code is idle control system malfunction.  You need to replace your idle air controller (IAC). IAC basically opens and closes the throttle at idle so it stays at constants RPM.  Hope this helps.  Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa.

Ok here is a link to AutoZone and it will tell you exactly how to change the IAC out.  I took some pictures of the IAC on my wife's Cherokee.  It's a 1999 but it should be the same.  The IAC is attached to the throttle body.  This should help you get the job done in about 10-15 minutes.  It will take you longer to get the part than get the job done.  If my assitance has helpedyou I would greatly appreciate a FixYa rating.  Thanks again for using FixYa.

I would check Cam Position Sensor as is directly related with ignition. Power loss is due to the ECU going on "limp mode" to prevent further damage.
I hope this helps!

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Keeps stalling, engine

P0505 means the whole Idle Control system, not only the IAM. Check all related sensors (i.e. crankshaft sensor). Check with a voltmeter direct at the connector of the IAM if you get any signal. Remove the IAM from the TB, connect him, let someone switch your ignition key to ON. The IAM need to drive in/out for a short time to find the right position. Hold the IAM near a hard part, that they cant drive out completely! If IAM works fine, check the fuel pressure, check and clean your TB ( if not done yet). If that doesn't work, come back again please

My car died a couple of days ago when I was driving. The codes P0505 and P0123 appeared. I replaced the sensors and the car still won't start and P0505 was still showing up

the idle air control valve is on the throttle body below the throttle positioning sensor. To test first, use a test light on the connection coming to it with the vehicle running. Rev the motor and each terminal should make the light flash. In this case it is most likely the sensor. If they do not flash it is in the wiring or pcm
