Loose mirror in pop up housing

This mirror is design not to be serviced. The internal locking mechanisms are one time use only. The large pin loosening up and the mirror folding in or shaking around while driving is a common problem. If you want to experiment just have the mind set that this is a test for learning. The glass will more than likely break during disassembly but replacement glass (heated or non-heated) is available aftermarket. I have tried to repair loose pivot pins in the past but it is not worth the time. eBay has sellers for aftermarket replacements. $85.00ea. Good Luck.

Probably the mechanism inside the housing is bad or at least loose. Is this a vehicle you bought used or are you only owner? has the mirror been hit or subject to severe shock like smacking another car while driving? If bought used, has it been replaced? Any of the above scenarios could be causing your mirror shake. But in the end there seems to be only (1) solution. And since you cannot "tighten-up" the inner workings of a powered mirror. You are going to have to replace it. Now there is the expensive route, ie; FORD. Or the less expensive route, ie; on line. My two cents, go with online. Amazon comes to mind but there are 100's of sites to choose from, Rockauto as well. Try them 1st, I have had very good luck with 'em myself. As for the mirror, they aren't hard at all to install. Pull the door cover and up in that corner where the mirror is you will find three screws. Disconnect the cable that runs down the inside of the door then those screws. Out pops the mirror and in goes the replacement. Poof all done and now you are an auto mechanic. Start charging $75 an hour.

the triangel cover on the inside towards the front of the door. pop it off and youll see three 10mm bolts that hold the whole housing to the door.

Usually the mirror is 'glued' to the moving parts of the inside. Most of the time one will need to remove the mirror and re-glue it back.

As the miles and years pour on with a few examples, the side mirrors is an area that can cause some grief. Here is a brief write up on how to service the side mirrors on these cars.

Issue: Continuous clicking noise from mirror anytime the car is placed in reverse and the mirror only tilted half way down. Mirror was adjusted fine. My car is out of warranty.

Options:
1) New mirror-guessing here-$350.00-$500.00 installed.
2) Fix the current mirror using parts from another mirror. Mirror assembly does not need to be removed from car.

I picked up a side mirror for a pretty good deal off of Ebay and though it was not the correct color, I was only interested in the guts.

OK, first thing is to remove the mirror. Grab the mirror on the bottom and yank out with a quick tug towards you. The bottom of the mirror should pop out and then the top of the mirror slides out. You will then see the image below.Often times just one side of the bottom mirror comes out. Just pull on the other side.
E-These two leads are for the mirror heater. Just pry them out from the mirror using a flat head.
A-Those slots is where the top of the mirror slides into/out of during an R/R.
B-This is where the mirror snaps into/or out of during an R/R
C-Once the mirror is out of the way-remove this screw and the spring behind it. The white plastic square mirror holder can now be pulled out. Be gentle as there are two plastic worm bolts attaching this to the motor arms. Just give it a tug and work it out.
D-Now remove these 3 phillip screws which hold the front and rear housing together. This is the tricky part as on the bottom right Marked E is a plastic piece that snaps both pieces together. Moving the housing up and down will get it to lodge loose. In my case the tiny little clip snapped but no big deal
as the mirror goes back just fine. You may be able to pry into the inside end of the mirror by removing a plastic clip (not shown). Get this and everything else is easy.

i just replaced the passenger side on mine and this is what i did.

1. on the back side of the mirror housing is a half moon shaped plastic piece. gently remove that from the housing, exposing a portion of the back side of the mirror.

2. disconnect the two wires (remember rt and lf). carefully, with a pry tool, apply pressure on the center of the back side of the mirror, it will pop loose.

3. once the mirror is off there should be a round plastic piece attached to the back side of the mirror. on the passenger side there is a tab in the upper left side. lift up on the tab and slide the plastic piece down...it should slide off.

4. once you have the plastic piece off it goes on the back of the new mirror in the opposite way. you line up the four cross tabs and slide the mirror up until the tab grabs it.

5. put the mirror back in the housing by lining the circle (on back side center of mirror plate) with the center of the mirror housing. genlty apply pressure on the center of the mirror (i had to hit it firmly with the palm of my hand) unitl it snaps into place.

6. once it snaps into place you can reconnect the two wires to the back of the mirror and install the back side plastic housing......DONE

if just mirror most auto stores sell just the mirror it snaps onto the directional motor plate in mirror housing

Just replaced the mirror glass myself. Don't have all the answers but can tell you this much.

The passenger side mirror on my 2004 Odyssey was hit by a projectile which caromed off the upper door frame. Left standing was a functional mirror base (motor driven part which has four, short, horizontally mounted rods) still attached to the mirror shroud and a separate assembly of the mirror glass and plastic mount.

I purchased the mirror glass alone online from a Honda dealer, removed the old mirror glass from the mount, and mounted the new mirror to the mount. To do this, look at the tabs which hold the mirror to the mount, and slide the mirror across the mount in the obvious direction. It will take some force. I had the benefit of having the mount/mirror glass blown out of the mirror shroud so it wasn't too difficult. If the broken mirror is still mounted to the mount and inside the shroud, push the bottom of the mirror inward so the top edge of the mirror can clear the top of the shroud. Then pull up on the mirror glass to slide it off the mount. This will take some force but fortunately, the mirror glass is already broken so you don't have to be gentle. Wear gloves or protect you hands while doing this.

Reverse the process for install the new mirror glass.

Now for my key tip. I had to remount the plastic mount/mirror glass assembly onto the motorized mirror base. I could see that it snapped in, with proper alignment, by pushing straight in. I applied quite a bit of force and simply could not get it to snap in place. My solution, was to put the assembly in a 200F oven for 15 minutes to heat the plastic to make it more flexible. Using paper towels to handle to avoid burns, I aligned the closures with the four, small, horizontally mounted rods, and with a moderate amount of force, the assembly snapped into place.

Hope this makes sense. I believe most people will only have broken mirror glass and not have the plastic mount with mirror glass come off the motorized base as I did.
