Make sure nothing in cig lighter socket..coins,etc..if nothing present, unplug cig lighter socket and replace fuse..if fuse doesn't blow,it's the socket causing fault..if it does, unplug radio, plug cig lighter back in and replace fuse..if fuse doesn't blow, radio is cause of fault..if it does, then ther is short in wiring

VW T28 84 TDI Transporter cigarette lighter not working

There are at least two reasons why this could be happening. Firstly (and this has happened to me) there could be a foreign body dropped inside the lighter socket, preventing electrical contact. Have a look and remove. Secondly the fuse to the cigarette lighter may be blown. Beware! Fuses do not blow without a reason. If blown, it could be that a conducting foreign body may have been dropped into the socket. Remove the fuse cover and locate the appropriate fuse. DO NOT REPLACE WITH A HIGHER AMPERAGE FUSE. Should be no more than 20 amps. If the fuse blows again, try the lighter on another vehicle. ( A good friend??) If that blows the fuse too then the lighter is faulty with a low resistance. If not then the lighter circuit on the vehicle needs to be checked by an auto electrician. Good luck!
Cheers, Don.

Cigarette lighter keeps blowing fuse

when the lighter is not pushed in does the fuse still blow? If not get a new plug in bit. Try some other plug in unit (GPS--dash cam--tyre compressor) or anything that uses a plug for the cigarette lighter and see it the fuse still blows.

My radio fuse keeps blowing out

Wish this one could be simple...what changes have you made recently? If you changed the radio or cigarette lighter, the new one could have a short in it...first try disconnecting (unplug the lighter) and retry...if still blows fuse, re-connect the lighter, and disconnect the new radio...if this does not point out the problem...inspect all wires for a missing section of insulation. You should also re-insulate all the connections that you made in the install...Hope this helps.

Radio and cigarette fuse blows when i start the car on my 99 rav4

take your cigarette lighter element out and replace the fuses, if it doesn't blow the fuse than replace your lighter element its shorted. If it still blows fuses then you have a short to ground on the circuit some place and youll need a schematic to diagnosis it further.

Replace the cigarette lighter. Look to find out what else is on the instument cluster circuit, as that may be the problem, or a bad cluster.
