I have a 2002 pt cruiser while it was idling at the bank the oil light came on and the vehicle shut off and wouldn't start back so I gave it a oil change and also changed plugs an wires an just changed the crank sensor on it. Could it possibly be my oxygen sensors? Or no? Or could it possibly be something else I just might not be thinking of?

    any advice would be appreciated its had me puzzled once i put the crank sensor in it at first acted like it was goin to start then just kept turnin motor over not trying to start at all

Hi Sammy, Take the vehicle and have a diagnostic scan carried out. That will pin point the problem and take away the reason for guess work. Regards John

SOURCE: where is the crank sensor located on 2005 chrysler pt cruiser?

the crank sensor is located on back right side of engine by were the trans. bolts up.is the no start when could or hot?

My thought is to get a refund from the shop that tried to replace parts in order to secure your problem. The job of the shop is to diagnose the problem, not to replace items that may be the problem. Chrysler Master Techs are not trained to just replace parts, they fix the problem by diagnosing it properly.

You need to see a Chrysler dealership so they can attach a DRBIII and tell you exactly what is at stake.

I hope this helps you. I would be mad as heck.

I would not think the plugs and wires would be the problem because they would all have to fail at the same time to provide the symptom you experienced.

SOURCE: check engine light on, replaced oxygen sensor before catalyst,

  • Water or corrosion in the connector
  • Loose terminals in the connector
  • Wiring burnt on exhaust components
  • Open or short in the wiring due to rubbing on engine components
  • Holes in exhaust allowing unmetered oxygen into exhaust system
  • Unmetered vacuum leak at the engine
  • Bad o2 sensor
  • Bad PCM

There should be an O2 sensor before and after the catalytic converter on your vehicle, so it will have 2 sensors. You'll need a 7/8" open end wrench or an O2 sensor socket to replace them.

Oil pressure light comes on

i would suggest you change the oil pressure switch ,also called oil sending unit first. this part is not that much and isnt hard to do.if that doesnt fix it then you might have an oil pump going out

Your engine oil light is a problem. You may have run out of oil and if the engine is run with too low of an oil level it can seize up. You may need to have that engine replaced. This is why it is important to check the oil regularly and to have it changed per manufacturer's recommendations.

Pt cruiser shut off and will not start again. what causes this?

if you remove the oil cap you cam see your camshaft(s) on many vehicles. so remove the oil cap and have someone "bump" the ignition over a few times while you look at the camshaft(s) below the oil cap to see if they are turning. if not your pt jumped time. other possibilities if the cams turn are fuel pump fuel filter coil pack went out relay problems but i would start with the first one i mentioned cause pt's are notorious for that.

On newer vehicles, if the engine loses oil pressure, it will shut off to prevent catastrophic damage caused by oil starvation. Check your oil level. If it's good, it could be your oil pump. Good luck.
