Question about 1998 Mercury Villager
Cannot find location of the knock sensor; help!
Posted on May 18, 2009
Do not ever replace the knock sensor unless you have $600 to waste and not fix anything. It is reporting a spark knock event as it is supposed to, and it backs up the ingtion timing momentarily to stop the knock. Then it goes back to normal. Replacing the knock sensor does not stop the spark knock. You will get a P0325 DTC code, but ignore it. It will not turn your CEL light on either.
If you have persistent spark knock on acceleration, it is due to the EGR valve not opening or a plugged EGR passage. Then you should get an EGR DTC code for 1996-2001 model years.

According to the Haynes manual it is under the intake manifold, Upper and lower intake manifolds must be removed for access. If you go to Auto Zone, they have the sensor and can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the knock sensor with common tools. Good luck and hope this help.
