Surging w/cruise on

95 4Runner V6 auto trans 185k miles. Whenever I try to use my cruise it starts to surge really bad. It has had a recent tune up, and I have checked for air leaks, and adjusted the control cable. Will not hold a steay speed no matter how fast I'm going. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Make sure the vacuum hose is attached to the actuator, try getting a diagnostic code from the cruise control system
the instructions can be downloaded by doing a google search.

Check the timing and compression of the engine. It sounds like you either have a blown head gasket or a the timing jumped.

if the isn't under the hood, it might be in the driver's kick panel, not really sure what the problem is with your cruise control

Surging when truck is in overdrive with cruise control set.

Any fault codes showing in memory when you read the codes.

Cruise control kept switching of by itself

the connection is the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) in the transmission
If that is faulty or the wiring is faulty then cruise control is lost and information to the transmission control module(TCM) is erratic which will put the ECM into limp mode and the light to appear on the dash
Have the fault codes read and take it to an accredited auto transmission specialist shop with experience on your make of vehicle to get a proper diagnosis and quote

Why is my 2004 Ford Freestar surging?

as there are no codes to help we'll have to start with the basics , when was the trans fluid last changed ? if not recently i'd start with that , also put a fuel addative in the next time you fill tank , get one that covers the catalytic converter as well as the valves etc keep me posted if you wish

Truck shifts out of gear at 50 to 60 miles an hour jumps in and out of overdrive at those speeds

check the tps ( throttle position sensor ). a bad tps causes transmission shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging, engine cutoff, hesitation on take off, surge while cruising down highway. am not saying this does the trick, but it is a good starting point. good-day !

1998 Isuzu Rodeo surges while cruising

It is probably the mass air flow sensor, you can try cleaning the small wire inside it (windex works the best) but chances are it will fault again soon after. replacing it is your best option.
