Fuel gauge slow to rise and service engine light on

I let my 2006 Nissan Frontier 4 door 6 speed manual get very low on gas. Since the gauge went so low when I fill up the gauge takes a long time to move..but it eventually does...My book says after several drives it will reset but it has not fixed itself yet. Also the service engine light is on...but i took it for an oil change at my local nissan dealership and they didnt even pay attention to it!!! the truck seems to be running great..still good gas mileage. i disconnected the battery..still no luck

take it to an auto parts store and have them check the code for free and get back with what it says.

The fuel level sending unit might be shot. mine went out and every time the gauge hit 1/4 tank the needle dropped. its a $80 part, simple to fix yourself if you are out of warranty otherwise they will try to nab i with a $280 bill that includes changing the fuel pump which is not required.

You must find out what code is involved with the SES light. It can help to find out if you have a problem or not. The "service engine soon" light means you have a problem with the emission system. It may or maynot have anything to do with the fuel gauge. If your fuel gauge is accurate, then it should be o/k.If your dealership will not help you , I suggest you find a shop that can help.Ask around and you will find someone to help.

Fuel gauge on my 2006 Nissan Frontier

You're in luck
There is a possible recall on 2005-2008 nissan frontier/pathfinder and xterra, for erratic/inaccurate or
inoperative fuel gauge. This is the part# for the fuel gauge sending unit in question is #25060-ZS00A
Give your local nissan dealer and they should be able
to help you out. The reference number should be
#NTB07-069 AND 069A Hope this helps.

Gas gauge not accurate engine light on does not go over a quarter even if i full the tank

You may need a new fuel level sending unit. Check Nissan's help forum. You can get a free login and than will be able to download upto two files a day. Check their service bulletins out. They had a problem with the older Frontiers and created bulletin NTB99-064 check and see if any thing new has come about. This bulletin details fixing a ground connection under the passengerside kickpanel. Your check engine light may be something else, you might check and see if any of your local part shops do free code reads. FYI My 1998 frontier had a similar problem which I ignored until it started blowing fuel pump fuses. Turned out the fuel level sender started to short out and take the fuses.
