Check the bushes / bearings that are in the end of the diff housing for shaft wear. Check the cv joints for wear. check shafts for bent . check front wheel bearings and adjustment. Check the drive shaft from the transmission to the front diff as they are prone to u-joint failure and excessive wear in the slip joint.

SOURCE: 4 wheel drive is binding in 2002 trailblazer

the trailblazers are designed to shift from 2 wheel to AWD on the fly. BUT NOT TO EITHER OF THE 4 WHEEL OPTIONS. I'd suggest you get it to a mechanic to evaluate the damages.

SOURCE: 4 wheel drive (auto locking hubs) seems to be trying to engage.

I had the same thing happen. The automatic locking hubs are faulty, causing one or both hubs to try to engage or disengage onto the front driveshaft. This makes the clicking noise and loud clunking that you hear. You may notice your steering pulling to one side of the road, because one hub is locked in. Replace the automatic hubs with new ones, do not try to fix the old ones. I liked the
convience of automatic hubs but replaced mine with manual hubs, there just way more reliable.

Terios center diff lock not unlocking

Hi I have a question about the diff lock on my 4x4 Terios 2009. My WhatsApp nr is 083 640 5317 and my e-mail address is [email protected]. I had the clutch replaced with a clutch kit and after that if I drive the car in the normal mode (without diff lock engaged) the car struggles to make sharp turns to the left and right and it almost feels as if the car is sticky. There is also a vibration or shudder on the car between 40 and 60 km an hour which is not felt if you exceed 80km per hour. There is also a high pitched humming noise audible when you slow down approaching a stop street. The steering wheel also feels tight, almost as if the power steering is not as effective as usual. HOWEVER, if I engage the diff lock all these symptoms disappear and the car runs very smoothly, it turns on a coin, no shudder at all, no humming noise, just a very smooth ride indeed. I almost get the idea that either the diff lock stays on/engaged in the normal mode and that it disengages when you press the diff lock button and the diff lock light comes on. In other words I almost get the idea that the diff lock system now works the other way around. What is your opinion, could something have gone wrong with the diff lock switch when the clutch was repaired?

Transfer case troubleshooting

I would look at the u-joints before looking at the Tcase. Lift the front end (both wheels) off the ground at same time, crawl under and shake the front drive shaft. up down side to side. If it's tight the let front end down and get the rear end up in the air (both wheels) off the ground and do the same this to the main drive shaft. If the rear U-joints are failing (closest to the read Diff) take a real good look at the Diff. Make sure it's not leaking fluid, If it is you may have a bad pinion starting to go out also.

1996 Toyota Hilux Surf hubs and diff erratically engaging and disengaging

Based on what you wrote about sitting for a week, my first thought is the battery. Does the truck start?

Next, do you get an error code with OBD2? I have a 97 4Runner that had a similar problem shifting into and out of overdrive. It was an electrical relay inside the tranny.

My thought is that if the battery is low perhaps a similar relay is trying to engage or disengage 4x4. Or that relay is just bad.

Could also be the 4X4 switch itself.

1997 Mazda MPV just purchased and did not come with owners manual. Has electronic 4wd on column stick... What gear does it need to be in to engage 4wd or can it be done while driving??? Also shows Diff...

I have one of these vans you can put it in 4x4 anytime while driving or stopped or taken out of 4x4. the diff lock does not have to be on to have 4x4 .this **** locks in the rear diff, giving you all 4 wheels, this diff **** should be pushed when stopped, and taken out when stopped,it is always taken out before the 4x4 is . ps the 4x4 light on the dash should not be blinking if it is your acuator is stuck it can be freed up for 30.00

Whining diff on drive nissan terrano 1995

I would have someone check the U-Joints on the drive shaft. When they go bad they will cause a vibration when you are driving down the road. Taking your foot off the throttle stops it because the torque is being applied to/by the driveshaft any longer.

Good Luck

99 Blazer will not engage 4x4

4x4 actuator may be bad. its has an elctrical switch. this is the part that pushes your front drive shaft forword to engage the front diff. it also may not be aligned properly. You should also check your transfer case fluid level and the front diffs fluid.
