1994 bmw 540i brake lining sensor message will not go away

Changed the brake pads and sensors but the warning message inside the car still says the brakes need to be changed. We can't figure out how to reset the dates for that sensor on the computer. We tried a method of putting the key in the last position before starting the car, then pushed the odometer button but that did not bring up the reset menu. Also, disconnecting the battery does not clear the message.

SOURCE: BRAKE WARNING LIGHT

I dunno if this will work on your BMW, but on my BMW Z3 and M3, it was....

Turn the ignition key to position 2, but do NOT start the car. Wait for about 45 seconds and the brake warning message will be reset.

If it doesn't reset, then the brake sensor was damage. You will need to replace the brake sensor. It sounds like you replace the brake right after you saw the warning, so the brake sensor should be okay.

if you did the job mechanically yourself, then erasing the code needs done by someone with that type of equipment..usually the parts store or dealer..

What would be the causes for brake lining study light to come on in a bmw x5 2005.

Study light? Do you mean warning light?
There are sensors clipped into the brake pads on the front left and rear right wheels. When the brake pads get very thin, those sensors rub on the brake rotors, and the light illuminates in the dash indicating that it is time to replace the brake pads.
The light can also illuminate if something damages the wire to the sensor. I usually replace my pads before they get down to the sensors, so I re-use my old sensors. Although the wires are fairly well secured to the suspension, after a few years, the wires can get chaffed from the wind blowing them around, and the damaged wire can turn on the warning light.

Changed front brake lining wear sensor now i have no front brakes

the sensor has nothing to do with the brakes other than turnig on the brake warning. i suspect you changed the brake pads also.take wheels off and recheck. if you opened a brake bleeder then air may be in system, bleed brakes. a poor machine job on the rotors will cause no grab also

Disk brake warning light stays on even though the disk brakes have been changed, any ideas on how to get the light to go out?

There is a brake pad sensor that should be replaced whenever you replace the brake pads. It’s located inside a whole in the brake caliper of the left front wheel. When this sensor fails, the warning light will come up in your dashboard.

Hope this helps :)

Brake wear sensors

Redmondeo34

A couple of things to check.
This is only if you replaced the front pads, after the warning light came on.
1. Make sure brake fluid is level and at the max mark
2. Did you replace the front pads sensors with the new pads.If not please do.
3. Check that the rear pads and sensors are not worn and do not require replacing.
4. If all above is good, Drive vehicle for about 5klm and switch off and on it will reset itself

regards
I hope this helps.

BRAKE WARNING LIGHT

Its not an electrical problem . . .. . When you change brakes you have to change the brake sensor as well. . . . . It just looks like a piece of wire with a sensor that clips onto the pad . . . . .Normally it is the outerpad. . . I cant tell you on witch sides its on cause it may differ from model to model.

Its not going to be a hazardous to the car the brake light will just keep burning.

If you replace the sensor and t he light does not stop burning it may be that your front brakes are also worn but remember just as at the back there is a sensor at the front.
