Does it really matter what brand of oil you put

Brand name is not so important as the weight and type of oil, 10W or 5W, regular or synthetic. You need to know what type of filter to use. No point changing the oil if you don't change the filter. Some filters are better then others, stay away form the real cheap ones they clog up earlier between changes. Better to pay an extra dollar for the brand name. If you have an owners manual it should tell you the weight to use or on the oil cap under the hood. Some times you can go with a lighter weight depending on the climate and driving conditions. A 5w can be better in cold cold winter temps. Check your manual.

Most people think oil is oil but that is not the case. all oil is petroleum based but there chemical make up is different in different brands and there are additives that help with keeping the oil longer lasting. it's been my experience with Pennzoil that you get alot of carbon build up in the valve covers and sludge and that tends to starve the rockers and lifters of oil it needs . i have always used either valvoline for as long as i have worked on cars but thast is due to just being habit. if your comfortable with what you have been using then that is what matters most. with your vehicle the weight of the oil is important i have use a 10w40 in summer and a 10w30 in winter and this seems to be a good practice. now when it comes to synthetics you have to remember that you cannot mix regular oil with them. also you vehicle must be made to use the synthetics because your seals if not meant for synthetics will fail and that is a costly mistake. one more note worthy piece of advice when you change your oil i would use an additive like lucas brand, this is meant for older vehciles with high milage and has had plenty of success in keeping your engine running smooth

I do believe the more you pay the better quality of oil....that's my opinion.
