Alpha romeo 2,4 jtd
Hey just refer some auto- informative websites.. try big-manuals.com. it's really easy to repair. using their help..
My best advice is to pay a mechanic to do it! Access to it is a nightmare! Jacked up with a wheel off and the wheel arch liners out!!
You will also possibly need to remove 2 auxiliary belts to do it. (Depending on if you have AirCon fitted). A longer, outer belt and the shorter inner 'stretch' belt.
The alternator itself is held in place with two bolts and the electrical connectors on the back of it. One large wire and one small connector.
One of the smaller pulley wheels will be on a spring loaded arm to give you the slack needed to remove the longer belt.
For the shorter belt you might need to slacken the mounts on the air conditioning compressor to release the belt. To get access to the alternator.

SOURCE: to code engine immobiliser on
(1) look behind fuse box (2 x 10mm bolts then ease it downwards), look for black box with green sticker behind fusebox, unplug and replug wires (white plugs) several times, they suffer from corroded connections. (2) wiggle wires around that box and fuse-box. (3) take it to Alfa dealer for check-up, if parts and re-code needed usually around £250.

I just bought a '99 156 & had the same problem. As long as you have the 4 digit code then all you have to do is drive around for an hour (time the 60 mins!!) & providing you have switched the stereo "on" at the beginning the " - - - - " will appear on the front at 60mins. Then just type in the digits! The Alfa has this "anti theft" device on the stereo which also means every time the battery is disconnected you have to drive around for an hour before you do it again!

get your vehicle to a garage and get them to check your handbrake cable(may need adjusting) and rear brakes(new brake pads?) or check the parts yourself and replace or adjust as required. do you have the car manual in the glovebox?
