Hard Starting I have a 1989 Ford F 450 Super Duty 7.3 L DSL. The engine will not start when cranking after it is has sat for a while and the engine is cold. However, if you shoot three shots of engine starting fluid before cranking, it will then start. I am waiting for the glow plug liht to go off, indicating that the plugs are hot. I will not start on it's own, it always requires a couple shots of engine starting fluid. What can be the problem? I am not that familar with Diesel engines, If anyone can give me a few idea to check, I would appreciate it.

First thing i would check is if your glow plugs are actually any good. next i would check your injectors, then the injector pump make sure it's got the needed pressure. change the fuel filter and reprime the system. if the problem still occurs then look for leaks on the fuel system considering it will start with ether tells me it's somehow losing it's prime.

2ooo v10 450 ford super duty cranks but no start what should i do

The first thing to do is to read the engine control module (known as the "PCM") and see if any codes are present that would explain the no start. You do this test with a OBD2 system code reader hooked to the diagnostic connector under the dash or a full service scanner. Next check for fuel, an easy way to see if fuel is the problem is to buy a can of spray starting fluid (ether) from the hardware/auto parts store and spray into the air intake of the engine, if it starts and stalls out right way you have a failed fuel pump or injector circuit issue.

Focus code u1262 . how can i fix the problem?

I read on a different thread that had the same issue and their fix was replacing the battery. Have your battery checked. The code was given during cranking and starting of the engine.

Black smoke when i start engine, very rough idle.

sounds like possible a sensor went bad or is loosly connected. O2 sensor??? Also check the air filter. Sounds like whatever it is, is making the truck run rich----that would be the black smoke.

Hope this helps

Replace the glowplug relay. Its faulty. The glow plugs stay on until engine warms up.The engine temp switch then activates the relay to switch off.So it could be the temp switch also faulty.
