Cuts out when slowing down. Then starts right back up. Could this be fuel filter plugged?1999 vw passat

Drives great, slowing down, engine cuts out. Starts right back up again and runs fine until you go to slow down again. ??

Be checking emissions controls for vacuum leaks especially with the brakes..

i would start by cleaning out the throttle body. they collect soot and not have to be a lot either for it to mess up the idle speed, i had trhis on mine soon as i dipped the clutch to slow down the rpm dropped to about 400 to stall, i cleaned throttle body out ( taking air intake off and wipe round inside and the butterfly will be enough) and now it idles and the rpm dont drop below 900

replace your fuel filter first. If that does not do it, then try an air-flow meter. (if the check engine light is on it may be an airflow meter.

I have come up against this problem a few times before.
If the ABS. light is NOT on, and its the ESP light only that is on...your problem may well be a faulty Yaw sensor. This unit is fitted to the floor panel under the rear seat...in the centre. Another problem (although not all that common) is a faulty ESP switch. You should have an OBD code reading done to make sure. If a new YAW sensor must be fitted, the car must be driven with a full steering lock in both directions (left and right) at a speed over 20 Km per hour after fitting. If this is not done the light will remain on, even though it will now drive ok.
As for the price of this unit...Here in Ireland it costs around 140 euro. Hopefully its cheaper where you are. So better to have the codes read first.

I had a similar problem on our Polo 1.4. I replaced the throttle sensor body which I bought online for about £100. It solved the problem and was easy to change with the right tools. VW garage wanted £350 for the part alone!!

My '99 VW Passat is shaking, like it's going to stall.

That indeed is strange. It could be one of or a combination of things a number of things: a dying fuel pump, bad plugs or plug wires, a dirty fuel filter which needs replaced, carb problems, water in the gas. If you have really high mileage on the car, it could even be a bad clutch getting worse. Other than those admitted "guesses" I have no idea. If this has never happened before, I would give it a new fuel filter, put in a good additive like Sea Foam, make sure it is firing on all cylinders and take it from there. Good luck, bro . . .

1999 vw passat will start but will not stay started. Cuts off when accelerator released. Will not idle. Fuel and air filters replaced.

check the vacumn pipes like the one to the brake servo for a airleak first ,then the air control motor thingy on the inlet manifold ,iam tired and cannot think straight so this is last question ,remove the idle control motor valve and try cleaning it

2004 vw Passat TDI 130bhp not starting after >8hrs

simplest answer first,and this does not apply to a hot engine,The engine heaters work from a time switch on the door(would you believe)and the routine is, open door,climb in,put on belt,put key in ignition and turn on when orange light goes out.this allows the cold start heaters time to work(about 20 secs).sounds a pain but the number of times this has been all it is,when you put key in ignition, the fuel pump charges the system.hence the squirt noise,also the car has to reccognise the key(immobiliser system)also try using wynns/redexe to clean injectors...

My car starts and ticks over fine but drives very lumpy , changed plugs could it be plug leads arking out on vw pasat 1999

HT leads on vw are carbon and last about 5yrs or 48k.they are the biggest cause of ignition problems with older vw products.only buy genuine spares.but if seat or skoda do the same engine use them, parts are cheaper ....
